Chicago's Cardinal Francis George blessed a Porsche dealership yesterday. What do you think? Conflict of interest, or way to give back to a helpful business?
Since Catholicism is universal, I can not even fault the good Cardinal for blessing autos not made in America.
I just wish he would pray for my Subaru to hold up for a few more years. It can use all the help it can get.

Why is it so odd or newsworthy? Faithful Catholics can and do receive blessings on their businesses all the time. Though my sister is not Catholic, the co-owner of her business is, and had her brother, a priest, come in to exhort God's favour upon them. (He then also persuaded the Diocese to give them business, but that's neither here nor there.) (This, btw, is not the singing-with-Ashcroft sister I've previously mentioned. I've got 9 siblings so I have lots of sister/brother stories.)

Odd: I honestly had never heard of something like this occuring before. Yes, I was born and raised Catholic, yes I have lived here all my life. It struck me as odd because it's a business and lately I've been on a "corporations are evil" kick, so maybe it tripped that internal sensor.
Newsworthy: On the level of the Sun-Times it was probably just a slow news day. I posted it here to see what others thought of this, as I hadn't seen anything like it before.

It's probably just to make up for all the car dealers that I've damned to hell.
