That's beautiful. The "Ring of Fire" stands out very distinctly, doesn't it?

It makes you wonder how people can live normal lives with all the shaking going on in say southeast Asia.

Yeah, don't come to Portland. All it does is rain and quake here. Really!

i live 90 miles south of portland and this is the first quake we've had in a few years. most of that activity is down in california, from what i can tell of the map.

A program called xearth generates a map similar to, but unfortunately not quite as good as, this one on your desktop. It shows the last 20 or so earthquakes which means where there's a lot of aftershocks information for the rest of the world is pushed off, leaving an empty looking map. That's only happened to me once in a year though.
Nothing else has ever stayed on my desktop for this long.

You think THATS neat?
This program is pure sweetness.
It's functions as a screensaver and when opened is a rotatable and zoomable sphere of the Earth. There is real time EarthQuake, Volcano and Mapped weather data. There's also good working webcam links from around the world. Demo works.
Straight outa Snow Crash.
