Merry Christmas, Interweb! Though it's become part of a larger media conglomerate, the Chicago T.V. station famous for Bozo the Clown has dusted off some old footage from its archives. Among the goodies converted to Flash format are a Frosty the Snowman cartoon which inspired a bit of online detective work, as well as a more recent holiday favorite, The Yule Log.
There's one under the first link.
It's nice - but I'd like one that plays in full screen mode.
I miss Yule Log. It speaks of a strange and distant time in American history - a time when it was considered all right for a TV station to go almost twelve whole hours without selling us something.
TV stations weren't so automated then, either. My dad, who worked for a TV station in 1970, would see Yule Log and say "Hey, all right. They let everybody go home."

When I was in NYC this weekend, one of the stations was advertising that not only would they be showing the Yule Log on christmas day, but it would be in HDTV. I leave it for mefi to extract meaning from that...

This is awesome, Smart Dalek.
I have many fond memories of "Hardrock, Coco, and Joe." When I was just Little Bad Example, one of the local kids' shows would show it every Christmas.

Not true. WGN has from the beginning (indeed, the very beginning) been an arm of the Chicago Tribune (now Tribune Entertainment -- admittedly a lesser conglomerate). WGN stands for World's Greatest Newspaper.

A few years ago I actually had to "edit" a yule log video (which was shot in HDTV) for a local TV station that played on Christmas day. I say edit because the log kept dying down and I had to cut around the less dramatic footage. Watching that thing record to tape for 2 hrs was the most tedious thing I've ever been involved in. Although, it was always a guaranteed ratings winner.
