The fact that a lot of these are all party hits and sound really creepy and somewhat like a Philip Glass piece on piano is somewhat interesting. Problem: it felt weird to me once they got to the chorus. I think that they almost work in the introduction stuff, but the more it sounds like the songs that it comes from the more gimmicky and less essential it sounds.
But the videos that they chose to go with these tracks are fucking great.

I loved the old-time Busby Berkley visuals over the Daft Punk tune. It just seems to fit somehow. I also liked the musical version of it he performed far better than the original.

I agree that the Pixie's Where is My Mind is heartbreaking. First I am going to cry, then I will journal my feelings, then I will buy every piece of Maxen Cecyrin's work.

If I could have had any parents other than my own, truly excellent and much missed parents, my choice would be Garbo and Frank Black. That one was particularly poignant, I think, and not just for me. Is that Anna Karenina? Probably not, but that's what I thought it was while I was watching. Never finished it, but I can see how it fits.

Where is My Mind, Vitamin String Quartet doesn't have the great B&W film but it's another option. I love piano and string covers.

This seems as good a place as any to drop a link I've been saving for a while: German youth choir covers Guided by Voices' "Goldheart Mountaintop Queen Directory." Who knew that GBV, of all bands, would lend itself to such an arrangement, but it's just beautiful.

The the footage in the Pixies cover comes from The Mysterious Lady, starring Greta Garbo.
The movie turns around Garbo, as a Russian spy, who falls in love with an Austrian officer (Conrad Nagel). Their paths unexpectedly cross when she steals military secrets from him aboard a train. Nagel is disgraced but can redeem himself if he can put an end to Garbo's spying career. But is he still in love with her, and she with him?
The entire movie is available in YouTube.

It was the Depeche Mode cover that sealed the deal for me.
On a related note, I've been a huge fan of the Rockabye Baby series, which reinterprets rock and alternative music as lullabies. I'm particularly fond of the Radiohead album. Knives Out on Glockenspiel is pretty awesome, but it's tracks like Everything In Its Right Place and Sail To The Moon that remind me of Maxence Cyrin.

Facts:
Fight Club came out in 1999.
Surfer Rosa came out in in 1988.
Calculations:
1999 – 1988 = 11 years.
2010 – 1999 = 11 years.
Conclusion:
I feel older than I should because a movie I saw when I was in high school used a song that came out when I was barely in elementary school, and high schoolers today were barely in elementary school when that movie came out.
