If I had a tumblr I would definitely submit the calligraphic stylings of Phillies interim manager Pete Mackanin, who fills out the lineup card every day in calligraphy.

For someone whose handwriting looks like a drunken monkey got hold of stationery supplies, this is excellent porn to look at.

Bummed at the distinct lack of Asian calligraphy.

the other day, I was labeling file folders at work ... but the only marker I could find was my caligraphy marker.

So now our study folders have been labeled in a novice pseudo-Carolingian hand.

Actually, I'm really looking forward to getting some proper nibbed pens. A marker is good for practicing the basics, but it doesn't flow as well as a pen. Pens are great for Latin or Hebrew calligraphy.

If you just want to dabble, I highly recommend the Pilot Parallel. It's an inexpensive cartridge pen, so you can practice without setting up for a dip pen.

Turns out that dip pens are much cheaper than cartridge, at least in my neighbourhood. Holder is about $3, nibs for $2.50 - you can set yourself up with a couple of sizes for the price of a cheap fountain pen.

But then, I already have bottled ink for my fountain pen. I did cartridges for a while, but got tired of the expense and the plastic waste.
