Remote work for tattoo artists

Would you let a robot give you a tattoo? You might change your mind after you see what the prototype does to a tomato at 1:32. Cringeworthy for anyone with empathy and skin.

Prior art:
Appropriate Audiences' 3D tattoo printer on the Blue.
Their collaboration with Autodesk Pier 9.

Not ... really?

The first image of the woman getting the tattoo looked like a simm, I had to do a double take.

I used my ArtBot to give myself a temporary tattoo.

wow

that tattoo wasn't very good

Aside from the breathless talk about how 5G enables this (lol it could be over wired internet), it seems intrinsically limited by the lack of feedback. The plastic arm is never going to have the exact same response as flesh, and some of the subtleties of a good tattoo won't be possible.

Though, a good artist with this tool is probably still better than a bad artist in-person. I know that artists do eventually retire due to repetitive strain injuries. Maybe this technology could be a solution for that?

Robots who could clean toilets would be a lot more useful can we do them first thanks

It reminded me of the da Vinci Surgical System.

Kinda misses the point by disconnecting the artist from their subject. And as has been said above, is hardly ground-breaking in any meaningful sense. Any worried tattooers can be assured there is nothing to see here...

More likely than I'd let a human give me a tattoo. But, also, is there really a shortage of local tattoo artists? This is neat.

Wow, I have the first 5G tattoo! How cool is that? Now it's on my arm!

Sounds like a pretty cool memory though, just like that other time you got a little tattoo for reasons.

But yeah, she did seem a bit fake simulation for a moment there.

I wouldn't let a human give me a tattoo, let alone a robot. Murderbot would probably be OK though...

No, but would definitely let a tomato give me a BLT.

In Japan, the hand can be used like a knife. But this method doesn't work with a tomato.

You know those art toys, a frame containing a matrix of unpointed pins which conform to the shape of your hand or whatever?
How about that, but reversed and using tattoo needles. You pick out a pattern, ink them, and get someone to slap the back of it real hard with a dictionary?
Production-line stick n' poke.

Several years ago, I had a vivid dream about this that I remember to this day.

I was walking past the entrance of a grocery store when I saw a robotic tattoo machine. It was by the Redbox and other vending machines. It looked like a photocopier with an LCD touchscreen and a robot arm. I figured why not, and swiped my credit card and selected a tattoo and a location on my body from the menus.

But the robotic tattoo arm started tattooing on my face. I slapped the big red Cancel button on the screen, worrying about what am I going to do about the half-a-face-tattoo I now had.

Then I woke up.

This is like that, except it's real—a robot putting its stamp on human faces, forever.

Robots don't get tattoos. They get sprays. Learn the terminology.

I would 100% get a tattoo from a robot. It wouldn’t replace an artist and their skills in person, but it would be a good novelty for a small piece. I’d be interested in the experience and the precision gap (especially in responding to ink depth right), either way.

Would you like to know more?
