Jimmy Fallon's probably a parrothead, too.

Fallon better watch out. He probably stole the idea for this show from Aisha Kamilah. She'll sue.

Still stunning. Still has the serious "GODDAMN, THAT GIRL CAN SAAANG!" chops. I'm glad she's all right now.

Funny, I was just going to say the exact opposite thing. Lauryn Hill used to be so damn good. It is nice to see her performing again, though.

I still have his week's worth of shows sitting on my DVR. (I find all late-night television easier to watch on a weekend when I can skip the commercials and lame segments. I can watch an entire week's worth of Fallon in under 2 hours most of the time.)

Looking forward to it. He had Jennifer Hudson on his show last week as a couch guest, and I guess she came back this week to sing No Woman No Cry. In my dream world, I know Jennifer personally and can call her up and have her sing a verse and chorus of any song I want anytime because she and I are bestest buds. Talk about "that girl can saaaang"!

Fallon also did Broadway Week last year, and I'm hoping he does it again. He's really willing to take his audience on all sorts of little journeys.

I've seen 100s of performers live and easily, without hesitation, the most charismatic, heart-stopping, holy fuck performer I've ever seen was Bob. She does him justice.

victors, unfortunately it's an ability he apparently didn't pass on to Ziggy, who's got a great voice but is a bit static.

She looks like she's pregnant with another one of his grandkids. Beautiful.

sorry, whoops, that was a super negative post about something that I've actually been enjoying a whole lot. The Roots' version of Them Belly Full was terrific. and Lauren Hill blew me away.

I gotta say, I've never seen his show, but Jimmy Fallon does get some pretty incredible music to come off of his stage. Submitted for general approval is Just A Friend by Jeff Goldblum. Yeah, you read that right.

Unfortunately not on youtube is BoyzIIMen's recent comeback Motown Philly backed by the Roots.

Clearly Lauryn Hill was just in a fire, and decided to grab her bedsheets, blanket, and bling.

Even with all the eccentric twitchiness on stage here - damn, she can SING! Just lovely.

I get the impression that his is the show to go sit in the audience for, too. He regularly has people who are just sitting in with The Roots for the evening. They're not there to be the musical guest, they often don't even have an album to promote. They're just there to hang with one of the best bands in existence at the moment. And by the way they play out into commercial breaks and back in from them, I get the impression that, if you're there on one of those "just hangin' with the band" nights, you get a pretty decent mini-concert which isn't shown on television hardly at all.

She sounds borderline tragic. If you showed me this video in the 90s when she was peaking, I would have cried. She sounded worse at Coachella but that's not saying much. Sad all around.

Oh hell yes.

Is "tragic" a musical term that I can understand? I only have one L Hill disc, but this doesn't sound hugely different - if anything she sounds mmm, bigger? more mature? I mean, people grow up, or old or out, right? Things change, but I thought this was a rockin' performance, particularly the Could You Be Loved part.

Nope. To my ears she sounds terrible. There's a forced vibrato in her voice that sounds like a bleating goat. Something about her stage presence and body language suggests that she knows she can't hack it, and there's a look in her eyes that says, "get me outta here."
If you look at her career and listen (with many grains of salt) to all the stories about her behavior from former friends and associates, there's something going on there that's not kosher.
Granted, this was the best I've hear her sound in years, and hope it's a continuing upward trend, but it's still very bad.

She sounds like a generic R&B singer, and she looked terrified and twitchy on stage. I was hyped to see her perform, and that was a big let down. She used to be amazing.

Her voice sounds great to me, but yeah, the performance is pretty insane. She looks like she has Parkinson's and bleats through the first song. Could You be Loved? is marginally better though. Don't think she takes constructive criticism well or is at all concerned with how she's perceived by others though, so I guess you just take what you can get from Lauryn. She has a weird messianic complex thing that's been building steadily since her one solo album.
