Jan Morgan of Boardtown Bikes in Starkville MS was struck by a car while training for an Ironman Triathlon. Her husband Daniel has chronicled the slow process of her recovery from a unique perspective - he is a physician.
This post was deleted for the following reason: may need to do this again with less conversation steering. blog is good, but nit for avoiding a bike/car discussion and/or argument. -- jessamyn
Was hoping to see some photos

I swear this was posted here when the accident happened. Maybe it was deleted because MeFi doesn't do cycling?

I think it was posted in correlation with a post re: the dangerous design of roads for pedestrians, which segued into talk about the same hazards for cyclists, smackfu.
And yes, I am a bit lazy to go find the thread.

Hm. This seems like the sort of thing that's being written for the benefit of their family and friends. Not sure that he wanted it to be plastered all over the internet...

THE CYCLIST WAS WEST BOUND ON MS50 NEAR THE TRULOVE LOOP INTERSECTION. V1 WAS WEST BOUND ON MS50 APPROACHING THE CYCLIST FROM THE REAR. THE FRONT OF V1 COLLIDED WITH THE REAR OF THE BICYCLE. THE IMPACT THREW THE CYCLIST INTO THE AIR BEFORE LANDING ON THE HOOD OF V1 AND ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. V1 CONTINUED FOR A FEW FEET BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THE CYCLIST WAS THEN THROWN TO THE ASPHALT WHEN V1 STOPPED. THE DRIVER OF V1 EXITED THE VEHICLE AND OBSERVED THE CYCLIST WHILE TALKING ON THE PHONE. D1 THEN REENTERED HER VEHICLE AND RAN THE CYCLIST OVER AGAIN BEFORE BEING FORCED FROM HER VEHICLE BY WITNESSES. V1 CAME TO FINAL REST FACING WEST IN THE WEST BOUND LANE ON MS 50 JUST METERS WEST OF THE TRULOVE LOOP INTERSECTION. THE CYCLIST CAME TO FINAL REST NEAR THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE OF V1.This woman needs to go to jail for attempted murder.

Yeah, honestly, I am not seeing a lot of medical expertise on display in the blog posts, and there is a fair amount of the cyclist grar that you are trying to avoid having discussed. Maybe post links to more blogs about people in recovery from disease/illness?

schmod, the author has posted the link on the Bike Walk Mississippi facebook page, as well as several newspaper articles written about the crash. I think he's okay with it being distributed.

This won't last on the blue much longer, unless blogs on medical recovery are the next SLYT genre.

docpops, are medical recovery blogs that common? This is the first one I have seen and it is very emotionally affecting. If you don't think it is the "best of the web", you are entitled to your opinion, but it isn't a thin post. There is a lot of material there.

I would love to read all of the daily entries posts--got through 30 +/- but there are just to many--if there is a summary or edited version I would read. Besides the medical aspects I got to the point where he was informed there was no criminal charges available other than misdemeanors. I am having difficulty reconciling this with the fact that she was hit, and then driven owner.

There is a lot of material along the lines of:
"This act that was done to her was completely avoidable. I think there should be a harsh penalty for what was done to her but Mississippi law does not agree.
"If someone thinks using their cell phone while operating a 2 ton piece of steel is more important than someones life then they should pay dearly for that selfish, stupid and egotistical action.
"Bicyclist and runners/pedestrians do your job. Know your rules, be very visible and watch the traffic.
"We could all give in and never ride on the road again or we can encourage more to do something good for themselves like ride and maybe someday this would become the norm.
"SUPPORT BIKE WALK MISSISSIPPI!"
It's a meaty topic that merits discussion. Is it really more interesting and fruitful to follow the demands of this thread's babysitter?
