How is this malarkey supposed to stop the war effort?

The creators of Italian Spiderman were hired by Australia's multicultural TV network, SBS, to produce Danger 5: "Set in a bizarre, 1960s inspired version of World War II, action comedy series DANGER 5 follows a team of five spies on a mission to kill Adolf Hitler." The six-part TV series will air in February 2012, but the trailer and the first instalment of a promotional web-series are now playing.

Caught the preview a while back on io9 and loved the hell out of the first episode. Can't wait to see the whole thing. Nothing could be more the thing I want to watch.

Except Venture Bros., but that's a given for anyone that enjoys this.

The last time I wept for joy over a discovery like this was when I found that case of #10 cans of chocolate pudding in an alley where I was urinating.

Kinda wonder why both the Spiderman and the Hitler videos both involve smacking women in the face.

I came across the trailer .... somewhere a week or to ago (someone may have linked it here in a thread or something) and was impressed. But now I'm even more impressed as this might be an indication that SBS's comedy policy might be moving away from only commissioning terrible lowest common denominator 'ethnic humour and look, also dwarves' series which have long worn out their welcome.

So, up with this sort of thing!

KokuRyu: I suspect it has a lot to do with Italian sexploitation films.

To make you cringe and think, gee, we've come a fair way from the 60s.

Not that we don't have a long way to go, but it's fairly clear you're expected to think "Woe, dd he just do that?" rather than "Wow, that was cool."

And at least in Danger 5 the women are badass, too.

for non-Australians, SBS - the multicultural TV network - originally stood for Special Broadcasting Service. Thanks to their regular programming staples of art-house films, the Tour de France and the soccer world cup, SBS is now commonly understood to mean Sex, Bikes and Soccer.

Here comes a more subtle fascist superhero, done in the same style of Italian Spiderman:

Capitão Falcão, the Lusitanian superhero and his faithful sidekick, the Partridge Kid!
