Jesse and Laura are cooking and eating their way through the United Nations, and raising money for World Food Program USA as they do.

See also The Confined Nomad, previously on MeFi, which unfortunately only got as far as Comoros before going on indefinite hiatus in mid-2011.

In before anyone makes the Sheik Djibouti joke? Good.
I love this idea, and I hope it's more than a pitch for a book and does raise a decent amount of cash. I wonder how far they'll get. Even at one meal per week they'll still be looking at another three years.

Ful medames is already on my list of things to try.
Bookmarked as NOM.

I wonder if they'll make chilled monkey brains when they get to India?

I know Jesse, and I can affirm that this is a project with good smart people with no ulterior motive. As of this month they've raised over $12,000 for the World Food Program(me). It's clear they don't hold any illusions about how long this will take, but really, for two young marrieds in NYC, it's a pretty fantastic hobby/project.

Metafilter, is there anything it can't do?

Thanks juniperesque. That's good to know. The internet has made me cynical.

I hope, when they get to the United States, they go call out and consult Flavortown.

I only tried this at the local Yemeni place because the menu said "Foul Madames".
Extremely disappointed! Those madames were fragrant and delicious!

I've been fortunate enough to go to a number of the countries they visited (and an adventurous eater to boot), and every place I checked, they did a really good job, I think, of bringing out the spirit of the place. They clearly do their homework and give it full effort. A great job, although the navigate-by-country thingy isn't working well on my computer.

I also know Jesse and Laura, and can confirm that they're awesome people. My understanding is that since Jesse works for a corporation that matches charitable giving, the funds raised through United Noshes are doubly efficient.

New York metafiltrarians should consider a meetup. I've eaten Jesse's cooking and I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Holy shit, this seems amazing. I like to cook, and you can tell just from the way they talk about stuff that they really know what they're doing. I feel like playing six degrees of Kevin Bacon on real life to see if I could wrangle an invitation.
