Nardwuar geeking out music geeks is so much fun. And I don't think there's much more of a music geek than ?uestlove. This is incredible.

I've known the guy for decades. In many respects, he's entirely relevant to this latest bit of viral bullshit (Jesse Eisenberg dismantles somebody or other) in that yeah, he's full of shtick ... but the depth of his research and preparation goes miles beyond the surface noise. He seriously does some of the best interviews on the planet. Just go searching his Youtube stuff ... or his radio podcasts. Hours upon hours of fun and substance.

The bit at around 32 minutes in where he pulls out the Soul Train article is the best.

Narduwar is addictive. To see him interview highly knowledgeable musicians and blow their fucking minds with the stuff he brings out for them is pure joy.

Say what you will about Odd Future, but his interviews with those guys reduce them to the giggly little teenagers that they actually are.

Nardwuar is amazing. Love of his interviews.

I've known the guy for decades.

I wonder if we met, back in the day, philip-random.

Somehow or other, my shambolic 21st? 22nd? birthday party ending up being broadcast along with my buddy's band playing live on the air in the CiTR studio, and I seem to recall Nardwuar being there for at least part of it. That would have been '86 or '87, if I'm not remembering wrong (which I frequently do).

We were more or less contemporaries -- a few years apart, I think -- and both hung around the Vancouver scene doing Discorder-y and CiTRish things back there in the mid-80s. I'm happy to see him semi-famous and still doing what he's always loved.

Nardwuar used to be famous for being rude to musicians. I'm glad he now uses his powers for good. Hes still wrong about the Revolutionary War though, it wasn't a damn Civil War. Silly Nardwuar

I think I could listen to Questlove tell stories for hours. Also, Questlove's face every time Narduwar pulls something new out.

I see bardic reccing the Odd Future interview above; are there other essential Narduwar interviews?

I had no idea who Narduar was until I saw this video, and I know nothing at all about The Roots (though we're big Lee Andrews and the Hearts fans in this part of the world.)

But this was a fantastic interview. 40-odd minutes of pure pleasure.

koucha: Nardwuar has done many, many interviews and changed up his style at different times. I'm not sure that these are "essential", but as additional examples of him happily surprising musicians with stuff I've liked Wakka Flocka Flame and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

I may have mixed feeling on Nardwuar, but this interview has made me a permanent Questlove fan. Time to go listen to The Roots.

Dude, he nearly makes Questlove cry at 32:49. This is absolutely one of the best things ever. I didn't know this existed, or that this guy existed rather. And I didn't know Questlove was a walking Encyclopedia brittanica of hip-hop history which absolutely delighted me. Man, what a treat -- it feels good to be understood, and it feels life transforming to be really deeply understood, and I felt like Nardwuar was doing a life's worth of good deeds to Questlove with each record and piece of memorabilia he handed to him. I feel like this is a sermon on how to love people well or something. Thanks so much!

Related ?uestlove stuff: he has a book that is forthcoming, a memoir of sorts, which "discusses a historical range of musical artists as well as African American art, hip hop, culture and philosophy".

Also, The Roots and Elvis Costello have recorded an album, which you may or may not have been able to pick up at odd locations on Record Store Day as early test-pressings.

Nardwuar's interview with Trinidad James is pretty good. All of his Pharrell interviews are great, and recently Pharrell turned the tables and interviewed Nardwuar. His Juicy J interview is all right, Juicy J is turnt up. Riff Raff is a goof.

Dude is on point.

Riff Raff is a goof.

I'm not sure what happened because I only really like one of his songs (Rap Game Donut Sprinkles), but somewhere along the line I went from laughing at this guy to liking him.

I love that interview with Riff Raff. I find most Riff Raff songs terrible and boring (with one or two exceptions), but I had the same experience. Somehow, I kinda like the guy. And that interview with Nardwuar... he gets so caught off guard and brought down to earth, it's as though you are seeing snippets of the person behind the persona. It's amazing to watch.

Also, Questlove makes some mention of having been involved with a documentary about the Apache Break thanks to Nardwuar. While I'm not positive about which one, there is a Danish documentary about the history of Apache that focuses on its use in hip-hop. Here it is, in three parts. (Danish narration, most interviews and music in English.)
