jerry clouds is a soothing little art game where you help Jerry make clouds. (via Terry Cavanagh's freeindiegam.es)
Does it brilliantly demonstrate the cycle of life or is it bullshit?

You should've been able to read the tombstones before you generate the clouds. Each tombstone would be a username that ever finished the game.

That last boss was pretty rough, but eventually I got him. Next time I'll try to get a perfect so I can get to the Hell Temple.

For another emotional tearjerker, try the creator's earlier game, baker flowers.

Cavanagh created freeindiegam.es to curate, uh, free indie games that he finds interesting for whatever reason. It's moderated by a few other folks as well. While some of the posted games are addictive little action games (e.g. Pause Ahead) many more are odd little experimental things. This one I think is more of a novelty.

The link keeps taking me to a game company main page - what's wrong?

Which link? The game is hosted at Kongregate, so hopefully it's taking you there...

I was trying to access from my iPad - the "jerry's clouds" link lets you get to the Kongregate main page for mobile that way, but not the game itself.

Except that it's making me sign up for a free account. Any way to play WITHOUT doing that?

You should be able to play without signing up. (Just did a test.) If it seems like the game isn't loading, try closing the "SIGN UP" tab, which is the one that has defaulted as open.

I played this late at night - very annoying that it somehow over-rides my PC's sound settings, and blasts full-volume out of the internal speakers, even with "mute" on, and the headphones in. I had to apologise to our neighbour on the floor above.
