What is a castle? A miserable little pile of recurring rooms!

You might've noticed that the castles in the various Castlevania games, while different in every game, often feature similar areas and architectural ideas from game to game. You probably haven't gone to the trouble to catalogue these common components and their recurrences in the sprawling Castlevania series, but this is the internet, which means that somebody has.
Every year at the Brașov Marriott, there's a seminar for tax assessors on how to do a proper valuation of an ever-metamorphosing nightmare hellmouth castle.

I was under the impression that Death usually hung out in the Clock Tower, not the dungeon. But I'm not a Belmontologist, and this person clearly is.

Love this. I noticed this many years ago too but I would never have the drive to compile something like this. Very cool.

What about the orchestra playing a special symphony just for interlocutors? That and making sure to place adequate prime rib dinners behind each of my valuable paintings was probably the hardest thing about setting up my castle.

This is great. Wish there was more about the mansions in Simon's Quest, though. I spent a lot of time just dicking around in Simon's Quest as a kid, and even then I got to wondering about how people did actual living in the mansions. They were heavy on the spiked ceilings and floating platforms and moats, light on the bedrooms and dining areas.

(L) The Castle Keep: While its design seems architecturally impossible, this doesn't prevent the keep from remaining Dracula's favorite place to relax while sipping on some warm bloodposted by ersatz at 6:05 AM on November 20, 2013
Dracula's actually really into Minecraft.

The whole Castlevania series is just an absolute master class in the re-use of game assets. Thanks for the post.
