The oral history of looking like a dork

I've read that iPhone 6 is going to increase the ppi on the new larger screen size. The only conceivable reason for doing that is VR, IMO. You already can't see the pixels on a screen that's a reasonable distance from your face. It only makes sense to increase the resolution if you're going to be looking at the thing a few inches from your face. Apple has an HMD patent already. If they don't announce an HMD with the iphone 6, i'll be very surprised.

Or if customers' desire for higher numbers is decoupled from the actual functionality.

Great article (truly best of the web--thanks, Martin), and very timely.

I got my DODOcase Google Cardboard VR kit a few days ago, and while it's just lowercase vr, it's still pretty neat. It's like a digital, dynamic View-Master, which is a pretty significant thing on its own terms even if it's not completely immersive, haptic, smell-o-vision. It makes me wish Parrot made an AR.Drone with stereo cameras.

I got drunk and ordered a rift a few weeks ago. Will report back if it ever ships.
