"BDSM stands for Bondage Discipline Spider-Man"

The creators of the popularly controversial comic book "Sex Criminals" (previously here), Matt Fraction (birthname Matt Fritchman, previously here) and Chip Zdarsky (birthname Steve Murray, previously here too), are bringing out the perfect companion volume for their saga of a couple whose sex stops time (giving them the opportunity to rob banks)... a sex manual titled "Just The Tips". This 23-page preview (PDF!) includes such advice as "Role playing can help spice up your sex life. Pretend to be someone who’s good at sex." and "Make love, not war, and never to Gwar." plus exotic new positions like "The Dutch Microwave", "The User Agreement" and, of course, "Brimping", as well as lots of other Dirty Talk (in very large type to make it totally embarrassing to read on the bus). Perfect for anyone who considers "tongue in cheek" one of the sexiest positions.
Available in non-respectable comic stores the day before American Thanksgiving, real bookstores early December.

"Brimping" is now in Urban Dictionary. That's having arrived.

I'm more of a "three-second-rule taco" man, personally.

Have we reached peak sex comics? There's Sex, Sex Criminals, Dynamite, Avatar, that new weird Grant Morrison book, all of DC...

This looks like a good toilet book though.

Is the actual comic any good? I really like Hawkeye, so I've considered giving it a shot, but I am kind of bored by the entire idea of sex, so it would have to be especially thoughtful or especially funny and not rely on taboo or titillation to prop it up for me to enjoy it.

The first volume was great.

Yeah, the actual comic is good, at least I think so. It's charming.

First book was great- I really feel lots spinning its wheels a little at the moment (same with Saga too)

Sorely tempted to add Artw to the UD...

i invented the sex position "golphing". a man and a woman arrive late at night at a golf course and get ahold of a golf cart. he's behind the wheel and she sits on his lap, facing him as he drives all 18 holes, taking pains to go through all the bunkers for the extra bumpity-bump goodness. this is my best chance to make it into the urban dictionary.

Fraction will always have a special place in my heart for The Annotated Mantooth.

Where else are you going to find a giant robot named "World's Greatest Grandpa"?

There used to be a coffee cart by the University of Oregon called "Eugene Steamers".

We decided it was like a Cleveland Steamer, but from a vegan.

As long as you bring it up, even Pismo Beach has Steamers.
OMG, I think I just helped derail my own post.

"he's behind the wheel and she sits on his lap, facing him as he drives all 18 holes"

Consider rephrasing.

Wow, why hadn't I heard of Sex Criminals before? This is great, charming, sexy, and hilarious.

Also, the vampire erotica in the preview is killing me.

Sex Crims is hilarious and thoughtful. There's a lot of honest writing about sexuality and, interestingly, mental health. The letters in the back frequently have me in stitches, so don't overlook them.

The first arc is great! I'm still not sure about the second one. The letters column has entertained me more than the actual book the last few months, and I'm not really sure where its going. Still more excited to open this up than most of my pull list right now. I also find Fraction/Zdarsky to be about 60% overwhelmingly charming and 40% obnoxious.

Yeah, agree that the second arc is less compelling than the tender, sweet, funny first arc. Also spinning its wheels are The Manhattan Projects (holy story sprawl) & Atomic Robo.

I can see why people are saying that Saga is spinning its wheels, but the recurring hook--"This is the story of how/why [X]" that describes the upcoming arc--keeps me engaged. It's just that this arc is a little quieter and softer than the others, with nearly 90% fewer "GODDAMNIT, VAUGHANs" than previous chapters.

Just this. I used to have Fraction's Tumblr on my feed--his Hawkeye is fantastic and he's written some very smart and earnest things about addiction and depression--but I cut it after one too many promos for Sex Criminals, which from what I've seen of it does have some funny and interesting bits, but a lot of the fondness I'd otherwise feel for something like that tends to get burned away by overpromotion. I can completely dig that someone who's that talented doesn't want to spend the rest of their professional life servicing corporate trademarks, but treating what seems like a riff on Nicholson Baker's The Fermata like the Second Coming of Jack Kirby turns me off.

What is that, some kind of challenge?

"yeah, lick it like it’s a stamp going on your angry letter to our socialist president."

Oh dear.

Awesome to see Chip on the blue. I took a comics and cartooning course taught by him at OCAD a few years ago, it was my favourite course during my time there. His monster cops is also a great read.
