The Great Dorset Steam Fair [previously] WW1 commemorative convoy from Bovington Camp to Tarrant Hinton, on 16th August 2014, arrives at the roundabout in front of the Bryanston School Gates.
Featuring McLaren road locomotives Gigantic and Boadicea towing an A Holt artillery tractor followed by a Foden steam lorry
Breathtakingly moving is right. This blew my mind and made my night. Absolutely beautiful.
I am grateful that there are people who love these big wheezing sighing wonderful old steam beasts enough to keep them alive for such a spectacle. That convoy has some serious heavy metal.
A couple of decades ago I was lucky to witness four Stanley Steamers arriving in a line at a lakeside stopover during a Glidden Tour event as they rounded the lake edge, high and proud and shining, steam whistles blasting a greeting.
Thanks for posting this. Poetry in motion.

Wow! Amazing machines! I wish more people would preserve things for future generations to marvel at.

All of these engines were at a local canal festival last month here in Dudley. They cover a lot of fairs all around the country.

They are gorgeous and all, but I can't imagine operating them on the roads as they were a century ago, much less at the front line, which is where the tracked tractor would take over I suppose.
