Potato Toys

Published in 1931, Игрушки Картошки is a Russian book of toys you can make out of potatoes (and matches, and the occasional stick).
It's not clear whether or not people actually made them, but there's at least some evidence that they do now.

Mr. Potato Head was originally BYOP (Bring Your Own Potato).

Kind of a cruel thing to be published that year. It's hard to imagine much of anyone in the Soviet Union in 1931 was really making toys out of food, although I guess the famine was just getting started then.

Plastic potatoes are not as cute and charming as real potatoes. Let's have a Kickstarter.

I had a BYOP Mr. Potato Head, which got tossed in a toybox in the basement and subsequently forgotten during a "clean up that room!" mandate. A mistake you only make once.

But they are not able to be both a toy AND a snack, like Log© from Blammo!
