New Yorkers Alice Bradley and Deanna Zandt made a podcast about life and depression. It’s all going to be okay. Probably.

Don't talk about your depression online unless you're prepared to be called a freak and stigmatized by people you thought were your friends. Don't even assume that your liberal friends will necessarily take you seriously or that a medical diagnosis will be enough to keep people from scoffing and accusing you of playing up your troubles for sympathy or to get attention. Now, none of that's to say it isn't good or healthy to try to talk about it. Just don't be surprised if things get ugly.

Don't talk about your depression online

This leads to manicured profiles that project an always happy narrative that is not true. Ironically, a depressed person can look at this and wonder why they are not like that. Leading to more depression, that they shouldn't post about. It's a weird thing.

Don't talk about your depression online

I'm just now clawing my way out of yet another major depression jag and I keep debating with myself whether or not to start being really, really vocal about it, just to chip away a little at the stigma. I can never decide if it would be helpful, counterproductive, or obnoxious.

I'll definitely be checking out the podcast here.
