I was recently in Australia and while hiking in Lane Cove National Park I came across this impressive thing, which I promptly named the Australian Death Fungus. I decided that if I were a native, I would respond to every tourist query about an unknown plant or animal with "Crikey! That's the Australian Death [noun]! You didn't get within a metre of it, did you?!"

Since they are from Australia I feel better that this got the "Bananas in Pajamas" theme song stuck in my head. "Ceph'lapods, in pajamas, are coming down the stairs... ceph'lapods, in pajamas, are coming down in pairs.."
