The Creatures of Yes
I can't explain it, so I'm not going to. Puppets. That's all you really need to know…puppets.

Imagine old school educational videos without the educational aspects. Just fun fun fun. Yes yes yes! My favorites are Touching Water and Science & Technology, but honestly, if you like one, you're gonna like 'em all. And if you don't like any, well, you and I can't be friends, even if at some point in our lives we're all been Tom!
"The Creatures of Yes is a new experimental television show about people discovering the world around them and learning to appreciate each other's differences. It addresses modern, relevant topics head-on with humor and sensitivity."

  1. Touching Water 2:35
  2. Giving Thanks 1:00
  3. Science & Technology 2:57
  4. Christmas Special 2:38

That puppeteer I dated would be grumbling about this, but - it is fascinating to see how frequently that when we think "puppet", it seems our collective brains all default to "Muppet" when it comes to general design style.

"Most magic is just science that hasn't been properly documented yet. Once it has it is plucked out of its place in the astral plan and brought down to earth where it becomes very dull and boring"

I don't know how to describe it either. For some reason it reminded me of the old Flash series We Are Robots.

I thought this was archival Muppet footage. They really got the look and feel down well, and I like the way they reached that feeling of oddness by being radically simple ("touch water") rather than complicated (e.g. Timecube).

Love it! I sent links to my wife as well as a good friend who is a puppet artist. Thanks for posting!

This is just amazing. As someone who is desperately trying to up his own puppet game and break out of the mold I'm using (I think we're doing some cool stuff, but it's really basic), I sometimes see things like this and think that I'm the dullest dullard who ever dulled, but it gives me something to aspire to.

Yeah, that is a problem I have. I started puppeteering a few years ago. I have major performance anxiety (like not going to puppeteer in front of other people). Anyway, I wanted to make a video series (still do), but then the Glove and Boots guys released their stuff, and I realized I'd never be that good, and then the Don't Hug me I'm Scared guys came along and I realized I'd never be that weird, so I kinda imploded as far as pursuing my projects.

Surprising lack of shining, flying, purple wolfhounds, but otherwise, great!

Oh xingcat, your George, the Self-Esteem Cat is a work of genius.

Their style is, of course, familiar, thus comforting. But what is the deal with Touching Water? Seemed completely pointless and void of any ideas.

I have an ex I think would really like this, but he's a ding dong, so he won't get the link from me. So there! Justice is served.

Came here expecting a compendium of animals found in Roger Dean album art, but instead found fuzzy, furry bliss.

I want to be flip and say, "Exactly!" but to more seriously answer you, I think they are making an homage to the insipid "People react" style videos, like kids react to the 1st iPod or lesbians touch a penis style videos. I could be wrong, there could be no more to it than what's on the tin. Puppets touching water. If that's not enough for you I would suggest your bar is too high!

Or, as you point out, mostly pointless and void of ideas.

Yeah, I don't know why I like it so much. Mostly because it tickles that part of my brain that says, Huh, I wonder how much of this is real? Like do they shoot on old equipment or do they make it look like that in post? And I like the whole throwback feel. Then just add in I am a sucker for puppets. They are also exactly the right length and so well done as far as quality.
