Jon Sudano Vocal Covers

Jon Sudano has covered a diversity of groups from the Village People to Adele . . . but all his songs have one thing in common. It's not his beard or his dedication to his craft; every song he covers has the lyrics and melody replaced with Smash Mouth's "All Star". posted by chainsofreedom (34 comments total) 33 users marked this as a favorite

I'm not even kidding when I say that this is a symptom of post-postmodernism taking root in the cultural psyche. I love it.

I want to watch more than 2 of these but I'm worried it will cause me to memorize the lyrics to All Star

You have to pay to cross the Gate into the Other World. Whether it's worth the price is for you to say.

I love this comment (and account name) on the Imagine video:
Abraham Lincoln
John Lennon was shot and killed for this? 10/10 legacy

If you've managed to escape so far, I'm not sure I can in good conscience urge you to succumb. There's really no going back.

I'm trying very hard to suppress the laughter while listening to the YMCA version, I'm failing though.

Okay, the songs with the out of step and out of tune vocals, I can work with that.

This is unacceptable.

It's worth turning on the closed captioning.

So I'm a long time out of serious music, but it seems like he has a pretty good sense for what will work, and matches keys and tempo well.

It might be a case of four chord song, though.

This reminds me of the one band that my high school always got to do events, a student band that played classic rock sings on their instruments while singing contemporary (late 90s/early 00s) R&B. Think Pink Floyd playing behind "No Scrubs."

I love this completely and unironically.

And obviously those of you who have not yet memorized all the words to All Star don't have toddlers who decided that Shrek was the best movie of all time.

My personal definition of 'millennial' is someone who has memorized all the words to All Star.

Great post!

Memorized implies that there was some sort of effort involved. This obscures the truth, which is that one day we just woke up and IT'S IN THERE IT'S IN THERE OH GOD OH GOD.

I didn't even think to turn on the closed captions! I enjoy the ones that read "Chad Smith" while he is beatboxing to "Under the Bridge".

Every iteration of pop culture has tendrils that reach these lovely nihilistic end-points, cultural cul-de-sacs from which the only exit is retreat and declaring, "well, that's the end of THAT".

This is that for mash-ups.

I ran into this late last night while randomly youtubing songs. My favorite part is the camera angle.

Some day in the distant future, the scattered descendants of humanity will emerge from their underground shelters and roam the earth's surface once more, once the CO2 scrubbers have done their work and temperatures return to survivable levels. They will scour the ruins of the planet's ruined cities and try to understand the global civilization that preceded them. There will be museums of recovered artifacts. In a darkened room, historians will reverently play a file recovered from a media device that miraculously survived the electromagnetic pulse wars and the vinyl-melting temperatures. It will call forth the culture and soundscapes of the world before the deluge and the firestorms.
Hey now, you're an All Star
Get your game on
Go play

Yes...toddlers. That's why I have the lyrics memorised, toddlers...

Anyone know where I can get a toddler? Asking for a friend.

It's clearly inspired by Cicierega's (IMHO utterly insufferable) work with Smashmouth's oeuvre, which is fine. Cicierega is inspiring!

I thought I'd be rather damaged by the Creep video, especially not knowing which of the three early 90's radio jams it could have been, but it was good. Can he make the other two fit?
