Orange Grove Tool Sheds and Utility Boxes of Oliva, Spain [via mefi projects]

MeFi's own dobbs says "In 2017, I spent 87 days in Oliva, Spain. I took 1000s of photos of tool sheds and utility boxes in various states of function and decay. These are my 108 favorites."

They are surprisingly lovely.

I agree, they are lovely. Have to mention this, as if obligatory: "Forget about the sheds!"

These are great. Reminds me of the old tobacco barns that you see here and there on small, two-lane roads in the North Carolina countryside.

I have seen these all over Spain and never realised what they were!

I can't link as I am on my phone but these remind me of the casillas de camineros peones, ie road workers cottages, I spotted one in Nerja, almost derelict and got curious. Apparently they were built from 1759 with the peones expected to maintain one league of tracks as their often very remote patch, and were built as one family homes. They were kept up until the last century when better transport and mechanisation made them obsolete.

Love this. I am a fan of both ugly concrete and green plants, and them sitting next to each other under blue skies is absolutely wonderful to my eye.

I was lucky enough to spend some time in Spain this year, and these photos fill me with such yearning. I loved it there so much.

I picked peaches a couple of summers as a teenager. My father also had a kiwi farm. The trees are different, but I recognise these sheds, these soils, these skies.

This has hit me, hard. Not just the beauty, but the memories.
