Jordan Peterson is having a year of "absolute hell.”

The controversial academic, addicted to benzos, has been taken to an undisclosed location in Russia and placed in a medically-induced coma, according to a video released by his daughter (script). She affirms that her father has been treated successfully in Russia, stating that “doctors here have the guts to medically detox someone from benzodiazepines.”

This post was deleted for the following reason: I let this go for a few minutes to see what the conversation would be, but I'm not sure there's a lot to actually discuss here beyond a fairly prominent guy having a difficult health problem. Maybe when there's more context/reaction available, it will be meaty enough for a thread. -- Eyebrows McGee

I’m sure his all Beef and Salt diet will aid in his swift and full recovery to the twitching mentally unbalanced grifter of lonely young men we’ve all come to know and hate.

He drove himself straight to that location. I wonder if he's sorry.

Well, that was unexpected. I don't think much of his work, and I don't want to pile on the man when he is fighting a serious illness such as benzo addiction. But it's concerning that this is seemingly being set up to fuel an anti-medication, anti-doctor narrative, when it's entirely possible that the idea that Peterson was "misdiagnosed" is not that accurate, and that the treatment he underwent in Russia was recklessly dangerous. I don't really know that much about benzos but, iirc, withdrawal from them can kill you, and it sounds like it was a pretty near thing, and that that is being blamed on the mysterious crimes of the Western doctors.....the whole thing sounds sketchy as hell.

It's all part of the grift.

Well, if we see a chain of Jordan Peterson branded, tough love, pick-up-your-room, Secret Russian Method rehab centers opening up in about 18 months or so.......

It's all part of the grift.

Is anyone else getting the "family update" as an ad on the National Post stories as well?

I really don't like anything I've heard about Peterson's views, but I have spent my unfair share of time in hospital with someone who was in a coma. I feel for the man's family, on top of what sound like awful symptoms of the addiction which could have happened to anyone. Best wishes for his physical recovery.

I thought he was all about the adult male self-control and maturity and responsibilities and shit?
