"I would pay $15 to go to this show rn"

We're Penn Jillette Men's Razors and this next song is called "Don't call me back unless you have the Glade refills".For all those yearning to see (crappy) indie live shows once again, the latest Tik-Tok trend is a nice concentrated blast of nostalgia.
Crap, now I want to do the PNW version of this. Dibs on "How Does Puget Sound Machine". (Can anybody teach me how Vine works?)

For your consideration, the "toxic indie boy" trend from last year
POV: Indie guy you like about to soundcheck.
POV: You just asked Indie Boy “What are we?” at soundcheck.
pov: u meet up with a indie guy to sm*k3 for free and he immediately starts gaslighting u

While I've been to shows like this, the indie shows I went to most in the before times would be best expressed by some guy doing an Ian Curtis impression over drum machines and angular guitar riffs.

This evoked such a strong sense memory of standing in some semi-crowded dive bar or house show, drinking a cheap beer, sort of half-bopping along to the bad music between glancing around to see if my friends have returned from the bathroom yet. Yes after a year of isolation I would pay $15 for that mediocre experience and then some.

Such Mountain Goats energy I did not realize I missed, from way even before COVID tho. Thanks for this.

thank you for that powerful flashback to all the shows I attended in DC-area basements in the early-to-mid 2000s.

Eh, I have more experience with basement theater performances where the one man show ends with him throwing glitter mixed with Jack Smith’s ashes over the audience. Take that, Tik-Tok!
PS. I still have the ashes.

key distinction: basement theater productions are in, presumably, the basements of theaters, or in theaters located on the basement level of a larger building.
basement shows are located in your friend’s friend’s vegan co-op share house/punk crash pad/collectively owned warehouse studio/fixed-gear bike repair polycule dwelling. Or occasionally in the much nicer basement of a house in the suburbs where a teen in a band has unusually supportive/chill parents.
There is a folding table by the door with merch and an old Utz pretzel jar collecting money for the touring band. you WILL meet a dog in a bandanna.

Seriously wondered if the Walter Peyton Manning of the Year Award guy was Rymodee from This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb for a minute there.

There is nothing different between this and 2003-ish Orange County
Hell, it at least rhymes with 1990-ish Norman, OK. The cognitive dissonance for me is the distance between "these could have been the friends I had in college" and "I'm old enough to be the parent of each and every one of them." And nobody has spilled a beer on my leg.

It would appear that the Zoomers have spent Quarantine discovering that their parents once listened to the Promise Ring.
I have (appropriately?) a lot of feelings about this.

I watched these and immediately got a The Get Up Kids song stuck in my head so this all seems about right.

This recent video feels at least thread-adjacent, indie emo band Enumclaw.
