Cinephobe.TV: New York's First & Only TV Channel. Born of the pandemic and out of a shit posting insta account, The Cinephobe is programmed like a television channel, with a set schedule each day posted online guided by a passionate, discerning, and decidedly inclusive approach to movies.

Want more streaming movies?

Shasha is an independent streaming service for South-West Asian and North African cinema. Each month we present 20 carefully-curated films, selected by our experienced team of women programmers from the region. Films are available to watch by all, anywhere in the world.

Another Screen is a new, free streaming project by Another Gaze journal, created to foreground rare film work we deem worthy of feminist interrogation, across geographies and modes of production.

Maysles Documentary Center is offering some virtual cinema events

For over 50 years, Film at Lincoln Center has been dedicated to supporting the art and elevating the craft of cinema and enriching film culture. Their Virtual Cinema is offering digital rentals of curated programming.

MoMA's subscription-based virtual screenings.

For more on how streaming programs are attempting to fill in where repertory theaters dropped off, check out this recent episode of the Film Comment podcast (where I learned about several of these projects).

"It’s not that we wouldn’t all rather be together watching these movies on a wide, silvery screen; it’s that the connections being formed right now will be vital long after our favorite theaters have reopened." How COVID strengthened digital bonds in the film community.

Anyone want to coordinate screenings? I'm going to try to check out Outrageous! tomorrow on Cinephobe.

Reminds me of a late, lamented Roku channel favorite of mine, Bizarre TV (RIP Mistress Rhonda), which took a similar approach to grindhouse fare.

This looks fascinating, and I only hope that some of the films air at times when I'll be awake.

We're fans of Night Flight over here, if you like music documentaries, weird late night movies and softcore porn.

There's some great stuff on Cinephobe, like The Ear and Poison for the Fairies coming up in a few hours, both of which I really dig, and by reputation Omar Gatlato which is just about to start, which I'm looking forward to catching. But like so many hardcore cinephiles there is also the strong sense of favor given to any movie that's unusual or captures some sense of excess, which means some of the movies slant more towards the exploitational or extreme, like Brigade of Death coming up after Omar, which pretty much always has the adjectives nasty and sleazy attached to it, even by those who find something interesting in its style. So just know that it ain't all arty stuff or all grindhouse, but a mix that some of the hardcore enthusiasts most love to celebrate as much because its eclectic and esoteric as anything else.

This is overwhelming! There's like a film a day I know and I'm one of those assholes on the private torrent sites. Holy smokes what is a person to do with all these movies? Outrageous looks great though, thanks latkes I'm going to watch that one.

This inspired me to finally find EXP TV again (previously). (Tip: Time zone is universal, so your own time zone will determine what you see. For people in all but one particular time zone, you can switch to that time zone by watching on Twitch.)

Outrageous is a great one (there's a recent biography about its protagonist which is good). If you miss it or is on too late, it is on YouTube.

LocallyGrown.TV is another great public-access-type streaming site, showcasing Black art, culture and history (background).

I just resubscribed to Netflix and was reminded almost immediately why I unsubscribed in the first place. Thank you so much for this list.

@latkes I'd gladly participate in a group watch of some of the Cinephobe films and just about anything on the other channels mentioned.
