A therapist and a filmmaker examine narcissism via The LEGO® Batman Movie.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Jonathan Decker and (Regional) Emmy-winning filmmaker Alan Seawright discuss the four aspects of narcissism, why Batman puts up a protective facade of confidence, and whether narcissists can get better.

Their YouTube channel Cinema Therapy uses films to talk about various subjects including Parenting in Villeneuve's Dune, ADD in Elf, and even Therapy itself in Good Will Hunting. They just passed 1,000,000 subscribers.

Jonathan has another channel, Mended Light, where he only sometimes talks about movies. His Master's Thesis was on Gender in Pixar Films.

One of Alan's latest projects is a horror short starring Jonathan. YouTube has a sneak preview.

The “ professional filmmaker” doesn’t seem to work very much on actual films.

Lego Batman is the most interesting of the various Batman movies that I've seen. The script has an openly stated ongoing commentary on Batman's psychological problems. And there's also some nice flying things action choreography in the big battle scene.
