Chinese feminist comedy "Her Story" is on course for US, international release. It's a smash hit in China, drawing comparisons to Barbie, but some men are not amused. Trailer (with English subtitles).
“Some men are not amused”? I’m sold already

I'm totally in! This looks great.
So much crummy stuff has happened in my adulthood and relations have worsened between the US and China in a way that I naively believed would not happen when I was young and working there, but it always lifts my heart to see regular Chinese pop-culture stuff (and books and art and Tik-Toks and so on) getting global success.

After reading about certain Chinese men’s reactions to the flick, I looked up “butthurt” in Chinese and found “玻璃心,” which translates to “glass heart.” Which I get in terms of “easily hurt feelings,” but I hope there’s a stronger bit of slang out there to convey these manbabies’ ruffled feathers.

Theatrical release or streaming only?
The paragraph about how officially China is feminist but actually is still a backwards patriarchy is tedious but obligatory. Not related I'm sure is the current Variety front page story about Amber Heard commenting on the harassment and smearing of Blake Lively by Justin Baldoni.

This movie looks good and I hope I can access it when (if?) it’s released in Canada. I would also like to check out the director’s previous movie, B is for Busy.

American viewers tend to still think of China in terms of action films or drama, or maybe the fantasy blockbusters of the last few decades. But increasingly, Chinese comedy is a big draw worldwide as well.
When Barbie broke the world record for highest grossing film ever made by a woman, it was a Chinese comedy that it had to pass to get there. Hi Mom had grossed a staggering $825 million, an enormous amount for a comedy in any language.
The whole film is available on YouTube with English subtitles.
