I like those Japanese sandals that are basically a plank with two shorter planks attached perpendicularly to the bottom. Geta, I think they're called.

Google search for "hello kitty netsuke" gets exactly one result, a broken link to a hello kitty netsuke strap on ebay. Anybody looking to make their forst million, I'd say opportunity is knocking.

Prince Takamado of Japan, who died a couple weeks ago while playing squash, was a collector of netsuke.

Pink, I have a lethal pair of size 13 geta made by one of my students years ago. They are amazing, she even custom grooved the topside to fit my feet.

I'm quite fond of small, smooth stones from (spiritually/relationship-er-fully) important places. For instance, I currently have one from San Diego sitting on my dresser, picked up to bring good luck to my friend who just moved there.

Actually, I find it interesting that the vinyl geta sandals are considered more appropriate for formal occasions than the wooden ones.
