Shouldn't the ancient greek be "Oh my god! There's a fully grown woman in my head"?

Oh, dear god. I thought that thing had gotten lost in the mists of time.
Sounds unlikely, but I actually know the guy that started that whole thing with a post to alt.gothic. See http://tinyurl.com/2t7yk for Yohaun's first mention of it, and don't ever tell me that University of Waterloo doesn't produce some weird characters.

*snicker* This is almost tame by UW standards of weirdness.

Maybe so - but I've had 12 years of Yohaun total, and that was just the start of it...

[off-topic]UW grads? Me too! (albeit, not in a geeky field, but the arts).[/off-topic]
On-topic: I do remember seeing this before, but it's still darn cute. Thumbs-up.

But seriously, their ancient Greek is shite (they include an incorrect form of a word that Plutarch cites as the Lydian word for an axe!). For the exclusive benefit of Metafilter:
ômoi tên kephalên androkmêti tini peplêgmai pelekei
cf. Soph. El. 1415, Aesch. Choeph. 889

Problems with the Danish, too; it's technically okay but not at all idiomatic. My native source prefers:
"Åh gud, jeg har en økse i hovedet" -or-
"Åh gud, der sidder en økse i hovedet på mig"

There may be axes in our heads, but our cognitive functions are greatly improved by our bilingual natures, or so I hear.

One to add to the Zompist Phrasebook, perhaps. But then, non, je suis passionné par l'humour racial crétin.

There are a number of lousy versions there. I wrote to them when I discovered this site ages ago but never heard back or noticed any fixes based on what I'd said, so I figure they're in it for the fun rather than for accuracy. Either that or it's the axes in their heads.

The fun in this case is entirely dependent on the tension of the serious/absurdist dialectic; if seriousness doesn't hold up its end of the bargain the whole thing collapses into uninspired diversion. So I'd imagine it's the axes in their heads.

If only I had known about this on that fateful October night in Manila back in 1989, a lot of unpleasantness could have been avoided.
