Get Yer Kicks on Saddle Creek's Dime

The Faint + Viral Marketing + Indie Label Cash! Friday Flash Fun. Addictive in a musically-manipulative way. Drop Kick the Faint -- a Flash gadget-as-marketing ploy from the fine folks at Saddle Creek, no doubt flush with cash from their homeboys Bright Eyes' recent success (and critical fellating). A band takes the piss out of themselves, we get to kick them across a parking lot in flyover country and -- huzzah! -- hear cuts from their new record over and over again. Win-win-win? This is what happens when indie labels get cash and a Flash designer with a sense of humor, I guess.

Much more effective technique than this, which had the dual effect of increaing my dislike of Ashlee Simpson and leaving the song "Mandy" stuck in my head.

I keep getting too much air under "Joel". He is killing my accuracy score.

This does nothing to assuage my anger at emo kids.

The Faint + Viral Marketing = Metafilter's Front Page.

Die Connor Oberst! Die! is German for The Connor Oberst! The!

They sound a lot different now than I what I have on Danse Macabre, which was an almost pure synth album.

Hey, man, you know, demographics change.

Armen, what is that link supposed to be to?
When I viewed it, I felt a surge of dislike for Ashlee Simpson, but it didn't have anything to do with the post you linked to.

You know, I'm making the effort with Conor, and I saw a solo performance that he did recently, but it just isn't happening. I can't help but suspect that his recent ascendency to apprentice member of the pantheon of Meaning has more to do with male rock critics of a certain age badly wanting a son and heir to step from the wings and carry on the traditional lyrical Torch of Dylan than it does with his work (which is promising).

And if lyrical brilliance was genuinely rewarded in this world, Kristen Hersh would be a zillionaire.

Dropkicking members of The Faint was fulfilling, but when can the cockpunching of Conor Oberst begin?

Clicking on the FPP link takes me to the Comcast homepage. Are they bouncing referrers from Metafilter?
I could only get to the game by first going to the page in mrgrimm's post.

the first link in the FPP is OK, i think. the second is misformatted with a '/' instead of a '.' -- that's why you're going to your isp provider.

Why don't you guys go listen to some Clear Channel. I'm sure you'll feel much better.

i have a theory that most of the people who sing the praises of conor oberst have never heard neutral milk hotel. all his songs sound like bad cover versions of "o comely".

My god, you're right! I just listened to Clear Channel for less than half an hour, and I now think that Conor Oberst is a genius! Thank you so much, fungible!

Do you actually think that guy who you see interviewed here and there, and over there, is going to be any good? The hype mechanism makes people to worship, and people to mock at the same time. Media attention is a function of so many factors other than talent that actually basing expectations on it is kinda silly.

back to the game.. when am I going to see a viral text adventure?

Incorrect. Everyone I know who likes Bright Eyes also loves the NMH. (Sigh...I wish Jeff Magnum weren't insane.)

At any rate, The Faint will be touring with Bright Eyes on their next go-round (for Digital Ash)...that's got to be the cloest thing to my own personal wet dream on stage.

(And if only I could get past 10,000....argh.)

when can the cockpunching of Conor Oberst begin?

Lefties, righties, gay, straight, hawk, peacenik; yet our desire to beat Conor Oberst with his own shoes unites us all.

I would have thought this was AMAZING about 3 years ago, when I was totally down with Blank Wave Arcade and when electro was The Big Thing. Still fun, though, and funny, especially when the punk says "I hate my dad."

I saw them at a club here in philly in 2002, and they were really good. That sleazy-sexy electro lustre has faded a bit for me, though.

Hating Conor Oberst : 2005 :: Hating the Postal Service : 2004 :: Hating Interpol : 2003 etc. etc. etc.

Let people decide what they like, not ClearChannel or indie rock snobs.
