Podbop. Completely stupid name. Not a bad idea. Enter your city, and it will come back with MP3 links and podcasts from bands soon to play in your town, in a "try before you buy tickets" kind of way. Works quite well for the US, other countries look like they need updating.

Dude, this is the best website I've seen in months. Finally, something useful on the web!

Not a bad idea. You damn Americans get all the cool stuff...

Hmmm.... you know what, I take that back. It works pretty decently for Calgary.

How did you even find Sydney? I saw this and thought it would be cool but couldn't find any mention of the rest of the world so I just gave up.

I just typed in the name, "Sydney".

Although, for some reason, it came up with "Sydney, New South Wales" and "Sydney, Queensland".

Also, the only Melbourne it lists is in Florida, and Adelaide doesn't exist at all.

It did pretty well for Glasgow (the original one). Presumably it all comes down to whether your local venues list their shows on Upcoming.org and Eventful.com.

Piece of crap:

No Cities Found

Your search for boston massachusetts returned no results. Please try another search.

Must be maintained in New York City or Jesusland or something.

Strange...first time i tried with Birmingham I got nothing. Must have made a spelling mistake. Looks good though I wish it also listed venues with the acts so I could have all the info I needed in one stop.

Just use "boston" in your search. Extra info confuses the search.

Daniel and I launched Podbop only 2 weeks ago.

Re: boston massachusetts, you *have* to put in a comma. (boston, ma). handling no commas is on our list of things to do.

Re: the rest of the world. I guess when we launched this I didn't think it would get as much global attention as it did. We are also going to try to de-emphasize the US only aspect of it soon.

Re: venue info. If you hover over the event title it will give you the day, time, and place of the show. This info is also included in the podcast feed so you can read it in itunes or on your ipod.

Please keep critiquing, its how we prioritize our to-do list :)

I can understand not finding results for Montpelier, VT or even Hanover, NH. But nothing for Burlington, VT. Bummer, dude.

Still a neat idea, and excellent post. Cheers

Works quite well for the US

teh suck. entered all towns in my area, one of the most thriving music scenes in the country. it came back with only the most miserable touring crap. then it failed to update the map of recent queries.

luckily for me, a guy in my area gets it that the worthwhile music is local and has a continuously auto-updating podcast of the bands appearing just in our little backwater.

3.2.3: We support every city, but we've never claimed to have every show for every city across the country. Podbop is a community effort. If there are no shows listed in your area, you can list them yourself (as I'm sure other music fans in your area would be mucho appreciative).
