Keep an Eye on Khuzestan

Keep an eye on Khuzestan. Khuzestan is an Iranian province on the western border with Iraq, with a coast on the Persian Gulf. While most Iranians are Persian, Khuzestan is primarily Ahwazi Arab. Of course, this has led to some problems. Did I mention that Khuzestan also has a lot of oil?

Iran has a very strong, high-morale military... and unlike us, I suspect they'll have no qualms whatsoever about being absolutely vicious in fighting against a war of separation.

If this somehow 'spontaneously' happens, they'll blame the Americans, call the inhabitants infidels, and lay waste to the population.

And, somehow, mysteriously, the oil exports will drop, perhaps sharply. "Oops! So sorry. We'll get those plants restarted just as soon as we can. Our humblest apologies for $100/barrel oil."

Yeah if we do invade Iran I start reading those "Last Days" books because it'd be obvious Bush has a death wish and is taking the rest of us with him.

If we really wanted to stop Iran from getting nukes, we'd take out their oil infrastructure. Without it, the country would go bankrupt really quick, and maybe not even be able to fund their nuke program.

Of course, we really need that oil, so...

I suspect they'll have no qualms whatsoever about being absolutely vicious in fighting against a war of separation.

And they can choke off, for at least a couple of months, 40% of the world's oil supply.

If we really wanted to stop Iran from getting nukes, we'd take out their oil infrastructure.

And they'd take out ours -- by stopping the crude through the gulf. That's the kicker -- they're one half of the gateway to Saudi Ariabia. It doesn't take much to sink an oil tanker, and just about any decent artillery piece can reach.

Silly people, The Israeli's will deal with the Iranian Nukes just like they did the Iraqi. Oh and America will be very upset and ask Israel to take a time out in the corner until they realize how naught they've been.

This was the topic of a previous post: Annexing Khuzestan. As I mentioned here, however, the znet article: Khuzestan: The First Front in the War on Iran? is more interesting than the subject of the original post.

Some more war on Iran MetaFilter posts.
neo-conned (about US leaks to Israel, but lots of links and talk about Iran and bombing)

shades of Viet... (Seymour Hersh ... saying ... the US has been operating covertly in Iran)

Iran gets bombed June 2005 (a premature prediction)

In case of emergency, nuke Iran (If anything bad happens, Iran will be blamed)

You Can't Get Fooled Again (slide show about Iran's nuclear program, reminiscent of Powell's UN fiasco)

Is the Blair government creating another dodgy dossier?

Soldiers of the Hidden Imam (Iranian's opinions about having a nuclear program)

A New Year, A New War (Al Jazerra says the war has already begun)

Iran: “We Have The Oil, Go Fuck Yourself” America: “OK”

It's on
I don't know, it is a frightening list to be sure.. They would have to be batshitinsane to really do it.

Military speaking, taking Khuzestan unfortunately could be relatively easy (compared to Iraq).
