yeah, but it's DR. TRAN!!!

I remember crying from laughing too hard when I first saw this at Spike & Mike's festival. Seriously brilliant.

That was pretty irritating.

That would benefit from having a good two minutes trimmed off of it.

But the other five minutes?
PANTS-WETTINGLY AWESOME!!!

More Dr. Tran fun here.

I dunno, it seems to be one joke agonizingly stretched into a multi-minute sketch. It reminds me of the darkest days of Saturday Night Live... "you lika da jooose, hah?"

I love Dr. Tran, but if you could find me a link to the same group's "Roybertitos 60 second Spot," you would be awesome.

I remember seeing this over a year ago. It's good, but I'm surprised it hadn't shown up earlier here.

Too long, but has some pretty funny moments.

Okay, I skimmed through most of it, but "HICKORY SMOKED HORSE BUTTHOLES" got me...

I actually did laugh. Yeah, the hickory smoked horse buttholes got me too, lol!

I saw this ages ago, and now, I can finally show it to my friends. Who will shortly stop being friends with me.

I don't understand.

It's about twice as long as it needs to be, but still pretty funny.

Just like the Internet.

mildy funny, yet culturally offensive. always a great combo!!

Yeah, very funny, but seriously needed some editing.

Still - free laughs - can't really complain, can ya?

I kept thinking it was about to get too long and dumb - but then it'd just get funnier.

Yep, too long but some excellent funny parts.

And I will be saying Hot Dickings for the rest of the day now.
posted by fenriq at 1:33 PM on March 31, 2006

This is the kind of thing thats a little funny for 30 seconds, kind of boring after a minute, and mindbendingly helarious after five minutes.

But yeah it could have used some editing.

That was the best one at Spike and Mike's a couple of years ago.

so the joke is the kid is not dr. tran and the announcer ignores this fact and that goes on for about five minutes?

My favorite at that particular Spike and Mike's:
My anus is bleeding

Printing out and distributing 3D glasses seems a bit out of the way to go for a simple joke.

Well, this is Mike & Spike we're talking about. Fans often had that years festival guide/brochure on their fridge. They used to have a promo where you could get in free if you brought your whole damn fridge with the flyer attached to it. I saw some really odd fridges. They were often filled with cold beer. I saw one guy who had three people in his fridge, trying to sneak them in. (Yeah, I dunno how they didn't suffocate. Stealth air holes, maybe.)

mildy funny, yet culturally offensive. always a great combo!!

Culturally offensive to who? Vietnamese? Americans? Hollywood? Doctors? Tran? Hickory smoked horse anuses? All of the above?

I love how it starts out like "Ooo haha looky at the goofy generic Asian kid!" and then just rips America and Hollywood a brand new hickory smoked horse anus, while little Tran just is trying to go about his normal day in a fairly traditional (if overtly cartoonish) Vietnamese setting. There's a few little clues in there that make Tran decidedly not just another generic Asian being made fun of, his name being the least of these.

Also, I love the length. It's just long enough to get really, seriously annoyed at Mr. Hollywood announcer, while Tran gets aggravated right up to the point of almost, but not quite, flipping the fuck out and actually kicking some ass.

I lost the 3D glasses. (I'm really just chiming in to say, "I saw this years ago, aren't I cool?" I know, I suck.)

The background music was used in Monty Python's "Olympic Hide and Seek". Weird.

Fucking Brilliant. I'm a total sucker for running gags, and this one for me was a great: perfect timing, perfect delivery, and the music was perfect.

The background music was used in Monty Python's "Olympic Hide and Seek".

I knew it was familar. Genius. *goes to root through Monty Python tapes*
