Good news, everyone!

Apparently Futurama is to be revived for (at least) 13 episodes. Of course this is not the first time people have talked about resurrecting the show, but it seems pretty official...

Excellent! I always hoped they'd kill The Simpsons to bring back Futurama (even though I still dig the simpsons). Funny stuff.

Futurama is overrated. Really, it's no funnier than your average sitcom, and it doesn't really have any new ideas.

Nawww, I'm just kidding, Futurama rocks. I just wanted to say that because Futurama seems to be one of those shows that it's not ok not to like.

gurple, I've met plenty of people who hate it. I thought us Futurama fans were just a rabid minority? Or maybe you just hang out with sci-fi nerds, heh heh!

Sweet zombie Jesus that is good news.

i was happy Family Guy came back but i always secretly resented it a little bit for getting the nod, when the much smarter and funnier Futurama was ignored.

[Not that Family Guy is bad. Futurama is just better.]

Even if Futurama doesn't come back in the timeframe noted, I'm glad it's still got a strong and vocal fanbase. I haven't seen many cartoons, let alone sitcoms, that can actually elicit an emotional "awww".

Jurassic Bark, and the Luck of the Fryish demonstrated to - to me anyway - that North American cartoons are more than just cliched oneliners, stupid pop-reference and amnesic stories with plot devices that last less than 5 seconds.

Family Guy is not teh funny. It's never teh funny.

I think it's worth mentioning that all those people who "hated" futurama were more likely people who "never saw" futurama. A lot of former haters, myself included, simply never saw it and didn't care one way or the other. But once we started watching it as part of our favorite late night programming block we became hooked. How else do you explain the same 15 episodes running on repeat for 3 years with no one complaining?

* deliberately doesn't go to wikipedia *

How many episodes were there originally, anyway? I saw a few of them and liked them, but was never a huge fan (or found the time to watch them since).

Sweet guinea pig of Winnipeg!

I have a friend who went to a series of costume parties, alternating between Bender and Flexo to see who would pick up on it. He'll be thrilled.
posted by Mayor West at 9:41 PM on June 22, 2006

I hope this doesn't immediately start going downhill like Family Guy did after they brought it back from the void. They were really close to wearing out the whole Fry/Leela thing, so I hope they take it in a new direction.

Not that Family Guy isn't still good... it's just getting closer and closer to complete nonsense as the writers edge slowly toward their eventual psychotic break.

I hope this works out well.
