The youtube video response phenomenon is not new, but they are making it as easy as possible with the 'post a video response' button. This is a fine example following from Matt's Prisoners of Youtube thread.
I am sure these guys uploaded this to serve as a diss to Levenshulme, then it just took off. Possibly this is a result of the media/internet Chav fascination that has arrisen over the past few years. The internet is a safe place to laugh at someone who you might avoid eye-contact with IRL.
I am finding it hard to express why I like the original so much, is it the parochial observations and aspirations (05 V6 Cleo Twin Turbo), the fact that these guys are pretty ubiquitous looking young men, the hand waving or just the whole chav-tastic blunted-youth bizzle? I mean Levenshulme is not exactly an area of Manchester that is renowned for being 'proper gangsta', it's quite nice really. They are stars, but not in the way they intended.
Anyway, this is your chance to make the first US response. Mine is in the works, all I need is someone to do some of the rapping and keep a straight face.

Check the Persil Massive, who set the bar pretty high and the Kersal vs. Slayer for a good quality mashup.

Ginger Joe - Yeah man, yeah man.

On preview - Thanks for waiting for the more inside, f_m

You know what I really love about Youtube? The fact that stuff like this gets posted and people take it and spoof the fuck out of it.

So yeah, it is terrible, but in an inspiring sort of way.

I saw the post and had no idea what it was about.
So I watched the video, and not only did I have no idea what it was about, I couldn't even parse what they were saying through the accent.
So I read your explanation. Clear as mud.

Can somebody clue me in here?

I was really hating this post until I saw some of the responses (see dr-baa's links)

Hysterical, especially the Persil massive. This version may make things clearer. Though it may not help.

The first thing that popped into my head when Little /BLEEP/in' Kev started to 'rap' was the "HOW CAN YOU HAVE ANY PUDDIN' IF YOU DON'T EAT YER MEAT?!?!?!!" guy.

Is this something I'd need a $1.6 billion consumer-driven media-sharing community website to understand?

I saw the NSFW, and was hoping for titties. I'm really glad I had the sound off.

At first I was like "Oh, it's Mike Skinner!" and then I was like "Oh, it's Mike Skinner's younger angrier brother!" and then I was like "Oh, wait - it's an Ali G thing!" and then I got a nosebleed and passed out.

Old - I've heard there's this great video with a kid doing a Star Wars routine, too - but still gold.

Cos we know how to rap,
yeah that's a... fucking other one.

A lesser MC would have whiffed at this point, but not Mack. There are rappers in the ghetto been trying for years to break out of the usual constraints of rhyme, timing and content, yet these plucky pioneers have transcended all three in under a minute. Wow.

so do you have to be brititsh to understand this?

My mistake, delete away.

Sorry it's not clear, this might help:

After a bit more research...
The Kersal Massive are three kids from Manchester who sent in a video clip to 679 Recordings to enter a competition for a Kano BMX bike. Amazingly they didn't get it, but over the last few months, their video has spread all over the internet, spawning remixes and various impersonations.

Well, it is old but gold.

Danny Baker, for anyone who might be wondering.

asok - you might want to post this in about a year's time.

Oh yeah, I remember what it reminds me of: U mean Im not? By Black Sheep.

But with more Kersal.

This probably should have been posted as a comment on the previous thread.

OK jack_mo, if that's what you want.

The more I watch this clip and its many offshoots, the more mesmerising I find Little Fucking Kev's shrill, glassy-eyed delivery.
Laid low

"I mean Levenshulme is not exactly an area of Manchester that is renowned for being 'proper gangsta'"

Er - which part of Manchester are you from? lol

I tell you what - go wander around Levenshulme on your own at night; take all your expensive toys with you. You'll be fine...

Levenshulme like many "just out of the city center" suburbs of Manchester aint really a pretty picture. Bits of it I'm sure are quite nice, in the way that Hulme has nice bits.

I still wouldnt recommend wandering about aimlessly lost in Levenshulme, much as I wouldnt Moss Side, Hulme, Whalley Range, Longsite, Miles Platting or Cheetham Hill.

(if you do, be very warey of any white 15 year old kids in large gangs)

The story of them doing it for some competition I quite like. From what I remember from when this hit YouTube last year was that some guy on a 90 bus from Manchester to Bury got bluetoothed the video. He liked it alot and put it up on YouTube. But the competition story is probably more true.
posted by 13twelve at 8:00 AM on February 21, 2007

13twelve it's not proper gangsta though is it? It just a bit rough in parts.
However, looking like you don't know where you are is a non-starter in general, point taken.
