The Chambers-Patterson-Bigfoot Conspiracy Revealed!

Did John Chambers fake the Patterson Bigfoot Film? If it weren’t for John Landis’ big mouth, maybe no one would have figured out that John Chambers was the man behind the monkey suit in the Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film. Of course Chambers denied it (and we’re still waiting to hear back from Landis).
Philip Morris of Morris Costumes in Charlotte, NC, has claimed that he supplied the monkey suit, but, apparently, he can't prove it. I like to believe it, since I've been to Morris Costumes, but I admit that's not a very convincing argument.

Fun post. I've never understood the myth of the stumped effects experts. It's not that impressive-looking a suit.

What if John Chambers was a Bigfoot in a human suit?

In this stabilised footage, when 'bigfoot' does his famous look towards the camera, you can see that the suit is in two halves. If you look just below the elbow, the top half moves independently from the bottom.

crayfish, did you mean to link to a .gif? "Stabilsed footage" to me implies a motion picture of some sort, not a static image.

I'm sorry but could someone please explain the John Landis connection? There's nothing about it in the linked interview, nor the obits on Chambers.

Did you read the last two links? The "Chambers denies it" link mentions it briefly and "waiting to hear back" is all about it.

I thought this film was known to be a hoax, via confession, for like 10 years now. Maybe I'm thinking of the footprints? But isn't that the same (alleged) encounter?

How it could be taken seriously in the first place is anyone's guess. God bless swaggering 1960's "bigfoot."

That stabilized footage is pretty cool but doesn't seem conclusive to me. His ass seems to swivel pretty far too, nearly if not totally in line with his chest. More (subjectively) conclusive to me is the look he gives the camera. It's not the long, measured look and then dismissal of a wild creature interrupted by humans. It's the quick glance back and then forward of someone seeing if you are getting this on tape.

I had lunch with Bigfoot in '84.
(Pad Thai; some kind of cream-based soup; marzipan)
Never returned my calls.

That is a crazy Bigfoot walk in the Patterson footage. Kudos to the actor inside the suit -- the inhuman walk with the wide arm swing sells it!

Maybe I was sending mixed signals?
During the soup course I did mention how much I enjoyed "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Revenge of the Yeti".
Still, I thought yarllghhhjjl meant yarlighhhjjl, you know?
