I loooove the crackling, popping, hissing sound of true vinyl. This is great, thanks!

Frank says that on some of the recordings 'they used the "Microgroove" process on 45s that allows a 7" pressing of tracks that are longer than 4 minutes but results in lower volume and more noise'. Hence the warm hissing.
Enjoy!

Damn. I was expecting this to be one of those stories about recovering ancient voices/music by playing a piece of pottery like a record. This is cool too!

Looks good, gottabefunky. Soundway Records also have some damn fine stuff. I just ordered their TP Orchestre Poly-Rhythmo release - check out the samples!

This is a fantastic post. I'll thank you now, and I'll thank you in advance for the hours of great music that will be traveling with me as I run through all of the mixes I just downloaded.
