Let's be honest here, a lot of the flaws of a product are lessened when you cut the price in half. $90 for a 30 GB Zune is very interesting.

Note that the new Zunes are out today. And for people who own the old Zunes, such as the one pointed to by this article, you can get the updated software and update your firmware with all of the new features, such as wireless syncing.
(Disclosure: I work at MS, but am not on the Zune team)
On Preview: DAP = Digital Audo Player

That brown Zune is kind of heinous looking. I wonder what the appeal of that particular color is?

It doesn't work with Macs, iTunes, or AppleTV. So what good is it?

I've got a brown Zune (it was free, but at least I got to pick the color) and it's not nearly as bad as you might think it is (though I'm working through the software update now, which kind of sucks).
I would probably never actually choose a Zune over an iPod, but I have to say that $90 is a good deal on this.

"Brown Zune" totally sounds like a euphemism, e.g., "I'm in the bathroom downloading a Brown Zune."

To complete the euphemism, you need to bring in the lingo-
"I just squirted with my brown Zune."

$90 is about the right price point. I've been saying all along that if anyone is serious about making a dent in the iPod market dominance they're going to have to make something that's about as good and drastically cheaper.
Sort of unfair, since Microsoft will just burn piles of money flooding the market because they can. Nice how Microsoft can act at the razor's edge of legality to absolutely own a lucrative market, and then use the profits to have an unfair edge (like being able to sell product below cost until competitors are destroyed) in other markets.
Funny, too, since overall this is a vanity project so Ballmer can have his kids using MS-branded iPods.

I can think of one small but loyal demographic they might be courting. Especially after the recent anti-iPod interview in The Onion:
But we try our best to make it sound as good as we can. And then I think of somebody with those little fucking ear buds stuck in their head—whenever I see someone with an iPod, I want to take it and smash it or steal it. I hate everything about it, especially since it says "Designed In California" on the back. It's fucking gay. It sounds like shit.

If you say "Brown Zune" out loud, it kinda sorta almost sounds like brassiere.
