Save the dollar

The value of the dollar is plummeting, but you can save it. Attributed to a fabulous job that our representatives on the Hill are doing, the dollar is worth about 50% of what it used to be in 2002. So, spend a dollar, spread the word, elect someone who will make the dollar strong again!

There are several artists who use money in their work, there are other stamps that go on money, like "gay money" or www.wheresgeorge.com to track money as it circulates, or even the folks who cross out the "in god we trust" on the back of every bill out of protest....but no, you post about some turd of a politician. whoopie.

Real money? There is no such thing as real money. It's an agreement we all have that some worthless slip of paper is exchangeable for something else. It was at one time backed by gold, but that ended years ago. Now it's backed by nothing except a huge gaping abyss of Bush war debt we will all be paying for the rest of our lives. No politician can make money worth anything. The Fed can do some shuck and jive and manipulate it all to give Wall Street a hard on, but that is all temporary. We'll just all be shoveling it into the hole that Bush created and we will be doing it the rest of our lives. So fuck it all, write on it all you want, send your little angst ridden messages out to the universe courtesy of your currency and see if it connects with another disinfranchised citizen.

Ronald Ernest "Ron" Paul was a bad mother fucker
He was seventeen feet tall, he had a hundred and fifty wives
He didn’t do that much except he saved our fair nation
He put two and two together and he noticed it was four
Now the treachery of Chimpy Bush can’t hurt us anymore
And he’ll always be remembered as Ronald Ernest "Ron" Paul
Fellow named George W. was a president of America
And he always started conflicts, but he never thought them through
Now he weren’t the nicest fellow and he had a couple problems
Cause he drank a lot and he beat his wife and he always acted rude
He killed and ate some babies and he copped an attitude
And the one man that he hated most was Ronald Ernest "Ron" Paul
Too lazy to convert the rest.

The funny thing is there is nothing Ron Paul can do within his "liberty"-based ideology that can do anything except remove what little support the dollar has left. That's why this particular message is so stupid... and frankly dishonest.
When there are so many good things he talks about (ending the War in Iraq, ending the War on Drugs), you have to pitch this shit...
And, for the record, I'm coming to believe the only thing that may save America morally and practically is a major economic collapse. And for that, Paul actually gains some support from me. I may end up voting for him if given the chance, but with my eyes wide open, and not expecting him to 'save the dollar'.
WHY AM I WASTING SERIOUS THOUGHT ON THIS?

The Swiss franc has historically been considered a safe haven currency with virtually zero inflation and a legal requirement that a minimum 40% is backed by gold reserves. However, this link to gold, which dates from the 1920s, was terminated on 1 May 2000 following a referendum regarding the Nazi gold affair with Swiss banks and an amendment to the Swiss Constitution.

If you are completely unaware of the horrible currency problems we have had in the world since 1913, all directly related to leaving gold behind, then your statement is understandable.
Fiat money serves its purpose well, which is to facilitate endless government spending and reduce savings into nothingness.

If you are completely unaware of the horrible currency problems we have had in the world since 1913, all directly related to leaving gold behind, then your statement is understandable.
Please read up on the Cross of Gold speech, then come back and tell me how much better things were pre-1913.
While you're at it, check up on the Panic of 1893 as well. And the Panic of 1907.

I think the Ron Paul slogans I'm finding are slowly winning me over.
"We Have About As Much Chance of Electing Ron Paul In 2008 As the Patriots Did Of Overthrowing Their Government in 1776 And For The Same Reasons"
"In Your Guts You Know It's Been Nuts Since Ninteen Hundred Thirteen When We Went Off The Gold Standard."
"In Your Heart You Know He's Right Because He's A Doctor And He Knows Organs And He Could Even Be A Urologist Because He's Had To Deal With The Dicks In D.C."

I don't think a doctor who hasn't practiced since the 70s and believes in alternative medicine is better than no doctor at all. I'd rather stay home than be treated by a quack, and I'd rather pick an unprincipled moderate than a fucking lunatic.
