Why that is exactly what it is.

Fake! I think that was actually a baby with a tail.

This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a monkey

Too much chain-yanking.

Meh. Talk to me when you have a 73 second video of a monkey on a flaming mini-bike jumping through a flaming hoop and landing on a flaming ramp. Also, the monkey is on fire.

Cruel and non-human.

I love how the monkey pushes off, as well as throttles the engine!

I love you so much.

Yes. Yes it was.

Well, it's actually two videos of monkies riding motorbikes spliced together.

It's neat how they allow the monkey to maintain it's dignity.
posted by tkchrist at 1:16 PM on March 30, 2008

It's only a matter of time before the monkey gets his tail caught in the chain or spokes, or worse yet gets hit by a car. Live hard die free, monkey, and leave a good looking corpse!
posted by Daddy-O at 1:17 PM on March 30, 2008

But can he kick start it?
posted by netbros at 1:22 PM on March 30, 2008

Was that second monkey smoking a cigarette too or did I just hallucinate?
posted by LeeJay at 1:25 PM on March 30, 2008 [1 favorite]

I love you so much.

And I hate you, because a few click through videos and I got to this, and now I want to boil my brain.
posted by cashman at 1:29 PM on March 30, 2008

This should really be on MonkeyFilter, maybe.
posted by Blazecock Pileon at 1:29 PM on March 30, 2008

Okay nevermind, I love you too, since the next clickthrough video was uncoordinated spiderman.
posted by cashman at 1:32 PM on March 30, 2008 [1 favorite]

What they don't tell you:

There are actually two monkeys. One that is good-looking (but rather dumb and uncoordinated) for the close ups. The second one is a stunt monkey actually does the bike riding.

And we fall for it every time.

I'd like to see video of the monkey refueling.

I'm unimpressed, have you seen the elephant that can paint elephants?
posted by pwally at 2:22 PM on March 30, 2008 [3 favorites]

totally off-topic, but cashman, you suck. that lady scared me, the way she had 3 sets of buttocks on her chest like that. now i'm upset and it's your fault.
posted by facetious at 2:32 PM on March 30, 2008

also, wasn't that really 37 seconds of video of two monkeys being dragged through the streets of some Indonesian city by their necks? i liked the teeny-tiny bikes though.
posted by facetious at 2:34 PM on March 30, 2008

Hot damn. I can't believe the monkey looks both ways before jumping on the thing and throttling on. Did that monkey go to Safety Town?
posted by jstef at 2:35 PM on March 30, 2008

It's the leash. Sure, you can teach your monkey to wear clothes. And you can teach him to ride a mini motorbike. But without the leash, he'll ride off into the sunset, escaping his life of slavery.

We all know how this ends.

Rhesus without a cause.
posted by dhartung at 3:51 PM on March 30, 2008 [2 favorites]

Now, the question is: If the monkey were to escape the chain, yet retain the minibike, would he ride it all the way to freedom, or would he lose interest as soon as he passed the first fruit stand?

I would hope the former, but suspect the latter.
posted by Sukiari at 4:54 PM on March 30, 2008

That monkey is a lot more skilled that many human bikers. Did you see how he waited for traffic to pass before taking off? He/she kicks ass.
posted by snsranch at 5:27 PM on March 30, 2008

I'm not impressed. I want to see a baboon riding a 1000cc sportbike.

Put the monkey on a Light Cycle, and then you've really got something.
posted by schoolgirl report at 6:48 PM on March 30, 2008

Did anyone else suspect that the monkey was not really operating the motorbike, but being tugged and flung in a manner that gave him enough speed to maintain his balance on two wheels?

Either way, this monkey is more talented than the organ grinders I used to see as a kid.
