Insane cockroach vs. frog football game

Australians celebrate their national football championships with a bloody frogs vs. cockroaches football game online! (The cane toad is a symbol of Queensland football...)
At last, a good place to link to Batrachomyomachia, or The Battle of the Frogs and the Mice--a parody of the Iliad once supposed to written by Homer himself.

oh, look,
Out, damned comma!
Given it'll be a while before the other Aussies will wake up, I'll point out that the League State of Origin game isn't the "national football championships" - it's more like an All Star game between two states.

Reminds me a little of Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain - Conquistador toads invading the domain of Mayan iguanas.
(caution: frog and lizard carnage)

only on metafilter does the state-of-origin rugby league get compared with Jodorowsky!

And it's a game that is only liked in two states. AFL has at least four (Tas, Vic, SA, WA). Anyway I tried playing the flash game - it's confusing. I tried running into the canetoads to smash as many as I could but it turns out you're supposed to avoid them. That's not how I understand State of Origin works (especially in the Traditional Softening Up Period).

State of Origin makes me want to hide under a large stone for the duration of the game. It brings out the parochialism in both sides, but here in Queensland mild-mannered citizens often turn into beer-guzzling maniacs full of misplaced pride and gloating.
And then our usual beer guzzling maniacs get in on things, and it gets ugly. Especially during home games, concetrating the entire state's bogan population into my poor home town.
I hate State of Origin.

Australian Rubgy League has teams in NSW, QLD, ACT and VIC, as well as New Zealand. There is a fairly huge following in many nations in the region (e.g. Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga) and then there is it's support in its place of origin, Northern England. So I hardly think its got a minor following compared to AFL.
But I agree, today's game would better be described as "One game in a short series of games, between two states of Australia, in a sport that only a portion of the population watches".
