The film is notable for its pre-Code morals and denouement (and was banned in England for "justifying homicide without penalty"), renowned for its famous gowns by Adrian, and notorious for its disappearance. After a U.S. Federal court determined that the film came too close to Sheldon Barnes's play Dishonored Lady without giving proper credit, the film was withdrawn from distribution.

Rumors on the internet suggest that the film may be coming soon to DVD, with TCM screening it for the first time in broadcast history.
