WKBW aired a night of Halloween Goodies on Halloween Night 1973. Its quite worth the listen, especially the intro to the entire night. More within.....
The biggest piece was The War Of the Worlds re enactment they did six years prior to this air check. It caused panic just like the original Orson Wells Broadcast. It is a look at FM radio back in its heyday. There is also a Radiolab on various radio broadcasts of this HG Wells classic.

No problem. The link spurred a more extended reading into WKBW, my favorite station when I was growing up in Buffalo. They are now WWKB, a liberal talk radio station.

This is great...I had never heard this before. When it aired I was six months old and living in Toronto. Probably would have been heard in our town too. It's almost as good as the 1938 version, which used to air every Hallowe'en on CFRB when I was growing up. My dad made a tape one year, and I listened to that thing thousands of times. I probably have the whole thing STILL memorized.
Think I'll load this up on my eight year old's iPod and give him a life time memory!

I'm suddenly imagining the WKRP version of War of the Worlds. "As God as my witness, I thought Martians could fly."
