nice... The non-song version is much better...
it does have a bit of a creepy 9/11 vibe to it, not sure what to do with that part...

Yes, fantastic effects -- don't quite understand the song choice.

Best part: the Tetris floors on the building blinking out.
Also: needed a Mario or Luigi climbing out of the sewers.

Dang, unexpected enjoyment. Well that's going to take off like a viral rocket for sure.
A little back story. The writer/director's name is Patrick Jean. Director of Photography, Matias Boucard. Naïve New Beaters "L.A. trumpets" for the music. It was shot on location in NYC.

Interesting how the lack of music changes the impression.
Without the music, it's all very sinister and spooky, and the sound editing is *tight*, the looming buuuuuur of the Tetris pieces. In this one, Donkey Kong almost looks out of place, he's too cute and fun to be a part of this.
In the With Music version, it's almost like being all 8-bitted would be REALLY FUN. You keep waiting for your other games/characters to appear. Pac Man and Donkey Kong are now your old friends you're happy to see! Until the ending, which is out of place with the mood.

Prefered the non-song version.
Also cool to see the Commodore ad on the first subway station.

And Ocean and Psygnosis on the others! There's clearly a bit of an 8-bit computer bias.

I think I just figured out that The Whelk is a viral ad for the return of new episodes of Futurama on Comedy Central starting June 24th 2010 at 10:00 PM.

Apparently the film was made the French group One More Production... there's lots of other cool stuff on their site.

This is awesome and really well executed, but does it make me a huge nerd that I'm kind of bugged by the presence of Tetris cubes in an otherwise 8-bit army of attackers?

No, but the fact that there were 5-square "Tetris" blocks offended me immensely.

I saw this fucking everywhere today, and I don't get what is so cool about it. I love pixily stuff but I'm tired of fucking Space Invaders and fucking Donkey Kong over and over again.

Yeah, once you've fucked Donkey Kong once, he really gets boring.
And kind of needy.

I thought of this track when I saw the title, and again when I heard the music. So I tubedubbed it:

I had no idea this existed and now everyone I know is going to be subjected to me CORRECTING certain scenes from movie and TV.

That tubedub works so well, it almost seems like the film was made with that song as the soundtrack, but then they couldn't get the rights.
