The tastemakers over at the New York Times have deemed Bushwick, Brooklyn "the coolest place on the planet."

I agree that MetaFilter is the coolest place on the planet, but I think your link is borked.

Yeah, like half of MeFi now needs a new pair of pants because their hipster-hate-ons just tore clean through the ones they're wearing.

Here's the link

News Flash: well-to-do people in New York decide for everyone else that somewhere in New York is the coolest place on the planet.

The article says, "for those seeking the newest Bohemia, this neighborhood is arguably the coolest place on the planet." Coolest place on the planet- for those who want to be there. Every place on earth is the coolest place to somebody.

Sorry, correct link.

Meanwhile, the Gunnison Country Times, the local paper in my hometown of Gunnison, Colorado, has deemed that gas station with the pinball machines down the alley from Cafe Silvestre in southwest Gunnison "the coolest place on the planet."

Hold onto them until they become ironic I [cock] Williamsburg shirts.

I used to live in Bushwick. I don't remember it being that cool a couple of years ago.

Oh, my favorite Bushwick story ever:

I'm heading home from a party with a pair of friends of mine. We're on the train station, and there's two piss-drunk teenagers. Local Spanish kids. They're bugging everyone, leering at the girls, making everyone a little tense, etc. We've all been drunk at sixteen and know that there's a lot less restraint going on for doing dumb-ass shit

At some point a couple of 20somethings with bikes comes down and one of the teens just decks the guy in the back of the head. Not hard enough to drop him, but they get into a, well, "conversation." Bike-guy doesn't want to start shit, the puncher's friend is apologizing and the puncher is wildly flagellating between apologizing as well and trying to start shit.

Cue Olympia coming into the train station. Olympia, slim and in her mid 20s, was local too, and, at some point in her life, a guy. She comes down with two friends and we think "Shit. What's going to happen now?" Well. Some interesting stuff happens. Olympia comes right up to the kids harassing the guy and starts giving them the tongue-lash. "What the fuck do you think you're doing? This is grown people you messin' with!" The two kids start up again and she just knocks one to the ground. Cold. Starts kicking the shit out of him, yelling "you don't mess with the cunt." Drags him down the train station. More kicking. His friend is fucking terrified, mumbling something under his breath about this not being fair. Starts waving his schoolbag at her, yelling something about getting a blade and she turns to him and dares him to do it. Eventually, the two kids split.

Olympia, not dazed one bit, sashays down the train station, back to her friends and screams out, for everyone: "My name's Olympia. And if any y'all need help, just call me."

This Just In: People in New York find a place in New York to be significantly cooler than Duluth, Minnesota. Actually they didn't, but because they can't be bothered to check to see that it is infact cooler than Duluth. But, this place they've found is the coolest place they've found so far is in New York.

No worries though, they'll find something cooler next week... otherwise they would be out of a job.

Okay, griphus wins. We're done here. Crappy framing for a lame story that isn't linked right? Flagged.

I went to a party last night in the shwick. Decent bluegrass band, but the 7$ absinthe was weak, and the $7 bacon/smore/pot empenadas were also weak. I throw better parties than most of those Bushwickians. Just sayin.

Every place on earth is the coolest place to somebody.

Currently, with the weather the way it is, my apartment is the most insufficiently-cool place on earth. Darn my dislike of air conditioning!

But those NYT people need to get out a little more. I mean, really.

Whenever the NYT calls someplace "cool" it means all the poor people have to move out. That's actually a city law.

Bushwick? Sigh. Maybe ten years ago. (SORT OF HAMBURGER)

When I was new in New York I used to be obsessed with figuring out where the 'next' cool place was. Ask me how I ended up sadly living in Ridgewood, Queens at 19. That said, thinking of the next place after Bushwick makes my head hurt. And Bushwick was never much fun to begin with.

I wonder if MetaFilter has members who live in Brooklyn and have opinions about hipsters.

I lived in Brooklyn for 11 years and I have opinions about crack dealers. Preferable (as neighbors) to yuppies and such, cause they kept the rents down.

There's a fairly substantial difference between deeming some locale to be "coolest place on the planet" and stating that "for those seeking the newest Bohemia, this neighborhood is arguably the coolest place on the planet".

In other news, "sort of hamburger"?! This is what you've come to, Metafilter. Personally, I live in Minnesota. I'd live farther from New York if it didn't mean getting closer to fucking L.A.

So you're all complaining that a New York City newspaper is writing about a New York City neighborhood, in the Real Estate section?

My buddies liked living across from the crack dealers because they kept crime off the streets in the interest of avoiding police attention.

May God bless and keep the hipsters...far away from us!

I think you are right with that because there is no such wrong thing when we talk about opinions. However, i think you don't know yet how to make use link. LOL!
