No need to convert CBR files for the iPad. You can just use a free reader like CloudReaders.

I recommend Comic Zeal for iPad. A little pricey, but you really do get what you pay for.

Also, ArcReader for iPad reads cbr files just fine. Nothing fancy, and it's free.
