Hee! Up there with the squeaky door that sounds like Miles Davis.

HAHAHAHA!

And what a nice reminder of how handsome Damon Albarn was in those days. Not that he isn't still a looker now, I just haven't seen any pictures of him lately.

What Damon Albarn is up to recently...spoiler: still pretty hot.

That ticket barrier's heart isn't in it, is it?

On the other hand, this made me grin, so there is that.

(woo hoo)
When I feel heavy-metal
And I'm pins and I'm needles
Well, I lie and I'm easy
All the time but I am never sure
Why I need you
Pleased to meet you
(woo hoo)

The lyrics are kind of fitting in this instance.

That was great. In DC we have escalators that sound like whalesong, birds, and jazz.

My brother always said, in typical jest, that the BART station doodle was his favorite song. Great video!

This clip was cute, but I love Song 2 so freaking much that the frequent interruptions to go back to the little barrier machine were kind of upsetting. If every song on the radio sounded like Song 2, we'd be doing fine.

Years ago I worked an election night at the place that tallies up the votes in LA. It was kind of Brazil; we were schlepping crates of ballots in this great big room, from one long row of tables to another, while these big machines all around us whirred and spun, all night long, loud as you can imagine.

But the thing was, they kept whirring the exact opening guitar riff of U2's Even Better Than the Real Thing. You know, that guitar part the Edge plays: Whiiiiiir-dee-whoo-whooo! Whiiiiiir-dee-whoo-whooo! Whiiiiiir-dee-whoo-whooo!

I like U2 a lot. (Still. I ain't ashamed, haters.) But the opening riff of Even Better Than the Real Thing really loses its charm after the 6,000th repetition. I spent all night waiting for Bono to start singing: "Give me one more chance, and you'll be satisfied..." And he never did! I was never satisfied!

In 1997 I went to the Texas Motor Speedway Blockbuster Rock Fest in Ft. Worth (not as bad as it sounds; there were some good acts, and I got free tickets). There were something like 375,000 people there--it was, at the time at least, one of the largest concerts ever. It lasted from early morning to late at night.

Between acts, they showed various music videos on these big video screens scattered around. Mostly people ignored them...until Blur's "Song 2" came on, and 375,000 people all, completely spontaneously, screamed the chorus "Whoo-hooo!" It cracked everyone up. I guess the concert people thought it amusing so throughout the day they kept playing Blur's "Song 2," and the audience kept up with screaming the chorus, "Whoo-hooo!" every single time.

When I first heard this song some years ago, I misunderstood some of the lyrics, which led me to believe the song was a critique of the American mental health care system. No, I'm serious:

"I got my head checked"
I needed to see a psychologist/psychiatrist.
"My HMO checked"
My HMO wouldn't pay for it, so I got them "checked" (investigated) by the government.
"It wasn't easy"
It wouldn't be, would it?
Anyway, I was kind of disappointed when I found out what those lyrics really said.
