You know you're not going to get a lot of work done today or tomorrow anyway. If work should tempt you, RESIST! by browsing HOW's 2017, 2016, and 2015 awards.

As pretty as most of the winners are, it would be really nice if there was some explanation as to why these are design winners. The Best of Show, for instance, is certainly ultra-chock-a-block with large-scale cost-is-no-object eye candy and effects and whatnot, but I'm not understanding why it's BoS, exactly.

FYI, links to completed HOW design awards are on their Design Awards & Contest Winners page.

Information for submitting entries to open/upcoming competitions is at Design Competitions and Contests. These are for professional designers and agencies who must submit completed, published client projects (students may also enter some competitions). There are submission fees, and no cash awards are given out, so positive PR is the major benefit to winners.

There's an FAQ and some brief, general information about their judging process. Apart from credits, I've not found any comments about — or analysis of — the winning entries.

HOW has been around 33 years, and has showcased much eye-catching creative work. In the 2018 Illustration/Photography category, I especially liked 7. A Bird In The Hand > Is Worth Two In The Bush bottle label. If I saw this in a store, I'd laugh, pick it up, and check it out (which is precisely the client's goal: they caught my eye).
