“The Elder Scrolls: Skyblivion is a volunteer-based project by the TESRenewal modding group. We aim to bring the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to a new generation of gamers and re-introduce it to long time fans of the series. We are currently in the process of remaking Cyrodiil along with all of its quests, locations and characters into Skyrim and Skyrim: Special Edition.” [Official Trailer]

SKYWIND Remaking the Elder Scrolls: Morrowind with Skyrim’s game engine.

Beyond Skyrim expands TES V to the rest of the continent of Tamriel. Their Youtube channel is worth checking out for the soundtracks alone.

Skyrim’s modding community really are a passionate and talented bunch.

Have any of these volunteer remakes ever got anywhere? The only one I ever seemed to make something workable that I remember was the Ultima 7 engine rebuild, Exult, and even then it leans heavily of the art and artwork in the Ultima 7 package.

the most promising examples of vast volunteer mod worlds in Skyrim are Enderal and Falskaar but these also lean both on the vanilla assets in Skyrim and its official expansions.

Moonpath to Elsweyr, the fan effort to recreate parts of the Khajiti homeland, is notable for making an interesting location with all new assets, but its scope is much, much smaller than Skyblivion.

The morrowind -> oblivion transformation allegedly works after about 10 years of effort

I mean, the trailer is kind of proof that yes, progress is being made, and the mod is going to be completed.

As others have also referenced up above, the modding community for Skyrim is quite robust and active.

And if this takes 10+ years, so be it. At least this is a community working together and not some unfortunate game developers who are under crunch by some massive corporation that considers their labour as disposable and replaceable. Looking at you Microsoft/Bethesda.

Every time one of these threads come up I have to fight the urge to load up Daggerfall and finally finish it. So very good, so very broken.

Well, there is the fan-maintained port of Star Control 2, The Ur-Quan Masters, although they did start with a somewhat-working 3DO codebase. I wonder if there's a list of similar projects somewhere.

You can enjoy it in a much better way, now.

The Half-Life remake, Black Mesa, was eventually commercially released on Steam.

I want a special sweet roll quest from Salmo the Baker.

Fun things to do in Skingard.
First, get greenmote from shivering isle, skooma, a speed potion and Tobacco. Gather all the followers, should have 5 plus what ever you can conjure, place strategically around Nerastarel's House. (assassin on Rosethorn hall balcony)
Then sneak in Nerastarel's House, and get all the undead to come out, take assorted potions and see if the system crashes. For full effect, first have monsters follow you into skingard.

This is a cool project, oddly myself and two others are replaying Oblivion.

Ahhh, Cyrodiil, the bustling capital city of a continent spanning empire, where all 104 of its citizens live out their lives.

There was a remake of Ultima IV (or maybe V?) done in the engine of Dungeon Siege, I think.

Every time I've tried playing Oblivion, my game has eventually succumb to save file corruption. I've tried to play it -- I've really, really tried. I'm looking forward to trying again in a newer, shinier, more stable environment.
