Because Rickie Lee Jones is wonderful. Here's one good start to a Sunday: Rickie Lee and her good band live in Paris in 1983.

Thanks for this. I always loved The Last Chance Texaco. My favourite song of hers, though, is Easy Money.

Love Rickie Lee Jones. One of my favorites is the track she recorded with Rob Wasserman: The Moon Is Made Of Gold

About a year ago I was standing in a bakery in Atwater Village (L.A.), waiting for the customer ahead of me to be served. When she opened her mouth to order several dozen cookies for a party there was an immediate ZING! the moment I heard her voice. It was Rickie Lee Jones ordering cookies, and it was just as beautiful as a song! Rickie Lee 4-ever.

Just what I needed today... doing taxes, and like RLJ, I make half of it up as I go along.

It must be a very strange life, having That Voice be what comes out every time you open your mouth.

I'm very ambivalent. ADORED her first album. Saw the trainwreck of a junkie/alcoholic on David Letterman. Saw her live - she showed up an hour late, blaming traffic (in a very "um, the dog ate my homework" tone), and ended her show EARLY, claiming the event planners wouldn't let her play more.

She's brilliantly talented, and a near-total-fuckup. Like a less-volatile Amy Winehose.

IAMBroom, I think that was decades ago.

She remains a performer. Last time I saw her live, in Oakand around 1999, she did a cover of Bowie's "Rebel Rebel," which was as much a Rickie Lee song as a cover of Bowie could be. At the end, she said, wryly, "That is as much sex as I've had this year," and a guy in the audience stood up and said, "I'm here, Rickie!" Which she accepted graciously.

The concert was about a decade ago, so not "decades".

I hope she's usually a decent performer. She wasn't that time.

Yeah, my sense is that she's gotten her shit together and then less-together and then more-together-again a couple of times over the years.
